About Me

Hey! I'm an easy-going guy originally from the US but living in Berlin long-term. I love discovering new places and being surrounded by new languages, even if I can't understand anything. I used to use Couchsurfing a lot before the pandemic and my move to Germany in 2020, but stopped for a while. Now I'm trying to rekindle my spirit of adventure a bit. Right now, I'm especially trying to learn French, so I'm most interested in going to French speaking places, but I'm also open to everything generally.

I live in the center of the city together with my partner, who I moved to Germany together with. We both finished our master's degrees here and are now working/studying. And for the first time since moving here, we have our own "real" apartment where we can host people (it's a long rant about the Berlin housing market, only if you want to hear). I want to use my amazing 30 days of vacation I get now that I'm in the EU to try to see many places, and I want to host people when able to live vicariously through other people's adventures when I can't travel.

Some clarification on languages: English is my native language, I speak German at least at C1 level, Spanish is probably B1-B2, and Chinese I studied a lot in university, but have since lost a lot. I might only be like A2 now, depending, but maybe I can brush up. French is new for me, and I have no idea where I am, but probably in the A range.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

To meet interesting people from all over the world =)

And to practice language, if possible.

Music, Movies, and Books

So many! I love almost all Hayao Miyazaki movies, and the music that goes with them. I love jazz in general, but also rock, funk, and a lot of instrumental things, but I'm open to most things except something like heavy metal or techno (which sucks if you live in Berlin, because people seem to love techno here). I feel like I'm super picky and really enjoy specific books/music/whatever else. Right now I'm trying to read some classics in German, for example I'm really liking The Secret Garden (which is British anyway) and Fabian, something about a guy wandering around Berlin in the 20s or 30s and getting into shenanigans. In that vein, I loved a movie called "A Coffee in Berlin."

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I don't know, amazing is very subjective. Travel, mostly, which I feel like people here are more likely to find interesting, but I can tell you more in person.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm a super curious guy and love to chat and listen about all of our experiences and opinions. I can also cook a bit, and like learning languages together. If you want to chat in any of our common languages to work on that specific language, that's something I'd love to do. Otherwise, I'm pretty open to sharing -- that's kind of the point of Couchsurfing, right?

What I Can Share with Hosts

Lots of conversation, cooking, walking around/exploring. Or if you are super busy and can only have dinner or something, that's cool too. I'm open to hanging out or just catching up at the end of your busy day, if needed, but I would love to hang out with you at least a little bit, otherwise I'd be staying in a hostel!
