About Me

I live in deepest, darkest part of Berlin called Wedding.

I'm a tour guide, so I spend a lot of my time showing people old stuff around the city for money. I can also do it for couchsurfers and friends for free though. :)

I'm also half way through my Master degree in Modern European History at Humboldt University, which is loads of fun.

Ask me about history, food, coffee, art and film.

I used to have a joint profile but no longer! Can check out all my old references here - https://www.couchsurfing.com/people/jacinthamurphy

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Half of travelling is meeting people and the other half is having experiences. Put those two things together and that's pretty much a great Couchsurfing experience.

I love sharing things and learning as much as possible about the world outside of my immediate experience. I meet so many people from around the world as a tour guide and it always motivates me to travel and experience more.

Interests

History, but I also love philosophy and politics. All types of art and culture, but especially photography. I have a couple of film cameras, which I take around the city, shooting all the old socialist buildings and little alleyways in Berlin. I love minimalism in art, and the idea that I can go to a place which has existed for years, decades or centuries, and share in the experience of countless other people there. That's really special to me.

I love to cook. Food is one of the best ways of getting to know a country and it's culture. Drinking is the second best way (I am Irish after all). I'll eat or drink anything.

Music, Movies, and Books

Stately, plump Buck Mulligan came from the stairhead, bearing a bowl of lather on which a mirror and a razor lay crossed. A yellow dressing gown, ungirdled, was sustained gently-behind him by the mild morning air. He held the bowl aloft and intoned:

-- Introibo ad altare Dei.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Hitchhiked and Couchsurfed around Europe for 5 months.

Moved to Berlin on a whim with no money and ended up staying there for 3 years now.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you how to make a mean Irish soda bread.

I can also teach grammatically incorrect German and a few words of Irish.

If you want random, unnecessary and incoherent historical facts, then I'm your man.

What I Can Share with Hosts

A consistent ability to consume vast amounts of alcohol and share vast amounts of unwanted facts.

Countries I’ve Visited

Australia, Croatia, Denmark, France, Hungary, Italy, Northern Ireland, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Africa, Spain

Countries I’ve Lived In

Germany, Ireland
