About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To travel the world!

ABOUT ME

I'm from Honolulu, HI and have traveled to and lived in quite a few different places. I lived in California (Los Angeles) for some time, as well as Japan and Taiwan.

I have travelled most of Western Europe, some in Eastern Europe, and also to Canada, Mexico, the Philippines, and Hong Kong.

PHILOSOPHY

I think you should enjoy life to its fullest because life is short.

Travel is important because it puts a face to people and things that are "foreign" or unknown, or things that we normally read about in books or see on TV. Maybe we normally think good or bad things about things we don't know about, but reality is much more complicated.

I've met a lot of people traveling, from all different places and different backgrounds, and it makes me realize that we're all in the same boat together as people. Even if you're from a different country, we probably have more similarities than differences. So, it blows my mind that in today's world, we have prejudice, inequality, etc. People, no matter what their backgrounds, can relate to each other as people and friends through our common humanity.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've been to many couch surfing events in Taiwan, including meet ups and language exchanges, stayed at many hostels in different countries, and have exchanged and discussed traveling and ways to travel in different countries.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've hosted a lot of couchsurfing events in Hawaii, before there was a really established couchsurfing community here. When I got home from traveling I got bored and wanted to recreate the experience of traveling and meeting other travelers.

People had gotten too busy to organize events so Grace and I stepped in and started getting people together to do outdoors stuff like kayaking and hiking and doing mixer events for people to meet other travelers to do stuff with.

I worked at a Hotel in Korea, which may not count as couchsurfing but it was a pretty interesting experience where I met a lot of cool people and got interested in hosting and organizing travelers and social groups together.

Music, Movies, and Books

I personally love the works of and have been influenced by Ernest Hemingway, Michel Foucault, Martin Heidegger, and Marukami Haruki.

Ernest Hemingway because of his writing about extreme experiences and travel, Foucault and Heidegger because of their unorthodox views of the world, and Murakami for writing about things in a way that makes the ordinary seem extraordinary.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I really enjoyed going to the Aran Islands in Ireland, near Galway. Seeing the history of the old forts there, and the huge sheer cliffs, was really a life changing experience.

The other was going to wine country in Burgundy in France. I was struck by the stark landscape in winter, and the way the vines have to struggle to produce grapes, and produce a very concentrated, unique tasting wine from the particular conditions.

Countries I’ve Visited

Australia, Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, South Korea, Spain, United Kingdom

Countries I’ve Lived In

Japan, Taiwan, United States
