About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Working as a live-in Carer in the UK while I save for a European pilot licence conversion.

ABOUT ME

I left Australia mid-2015 after obtaining my commercial pilot's licence. As a live-in carer, I'm currently living without a permanent home of my own. When I'm working, I live with my client, and when I'm not I travel around visiting/staying with family/friends, and of course couchsurfing. It's certainly a different and sometimes challenging way to live, but I do tend to have more time off than the average person. I would like to settle in Europe once I'm able to fly here. In the meantime, I'm looking for fun and adventures with interesting new people as I travel around during my time off.

I was born in Sydney, but moved to Sunshine Coast, Queensland in early high school. I've also lived in Brisbane for two years, and Adelaide (where I learned to fly), also for two years. I've traveled to Germany many times since I was a child, since my mother's side of the family lives there. I've not yet lived in Germany myself, and my German is sadly still not very good. But I like to practice it when I'm there. I've lived in quite a few places in the UK by working with different clients. The longest stretch was in a town near Oxford, but I've also lived near Brighton, Guildford and Milton Keynes. Since July 2019, I've been living in a town called Fareham.

PHILOSOPHY

I believe I must make the most of my life because it's the only one I'm guaranteed (and believe I'll get). And so I don't give up on my goals and dreams easily. I can't stand the thought of asking 'what if?' or 'if only' later on. The only way to know is to fight for those dreams as best I can now.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I find it much more rewarding getting to know the locals when I travel. And what better way than living with them for a few days! It's also a great way to make friends in many different places. Whether I'm hosting or surfing, I like to spend as much time as possible with my guests/hosts. Otherwise one might as well stick to hostels/hotels. But I also get that life can be busy too. Owing to my living circumstances right now, I will only be participating as a surfer for the foreseeable future, but I look forward to the day I can host again.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I hosted for a while in 2013/14 when I lived in Adelaide, Australia.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

So far, hosted people from Germany, Finland and France. On a trip to Germany in 2012, I stayed with a family for 4 weeks in exchange for helping out with odd jobs. Couchsurfed with two lovely hosts during a road trip around southwest England.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The first time I drove in Germany and went at a little over 200 km/h on the Autobahn

What I Can Share with Hosts

I really love tabletop games (especially Siedler von Catan) so I'm definitely keen to play those if you are. I have a couple with me, including some new ones I bought on the road. But most (including my copy of Catan) are back in Australia :(
I can cook some meals I like, including a couple of vegetarian/vegan ones.
And of course my time, conversation and experience.

Countries I’ve Visited

Austria, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, New Zealand, Qatar, Singapore, Switzerland, United Arab Emirates, United States

Countries I’ve Lived In

Australia, United Kingdom
