About Me

Hey there! I'm Pau, a freelance translator and passionate traveler! :) I'm one of the luckiest people I know because my job lets me travel the globe and work with amazing cultural institutions like museums, art galleries, parks, botanical gardens, libraries, and more. I get to learn something fascinating every day!

I've been traveling around the world since I was a teenager. I took a family trip to Europe when I was 14, and now I'm ready to see the old continent with new eyes! My next adventure will take me to the Netherlands and Belgium before spending a month in Italy, where I'll visit my family. :)

My previous travel experiences have been amazing! I've met incredible people all over, and some are now lifelong friends! I would describe myself as a chill, nature-loving, curious, and cheerful woman.

If I had a superpower, it would be knowing every language in the world! If I could be an animal, I'd be an octopus! I love the sea and its mysterious creatures. I'm also passionate about politics (definitely antifascist) and culture. Looking forward to meeting people from all walks of life! I hope you're one of them :)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'll be visiting Amsterdam at the end of the month, and I'm kind of on a budget! I would much rather treat a kind host to some goodies and a nice meal than splurge on a hostel bed. Beyond saving money, I know I can enjoy my visit to the city so much more with the guidance of a local! I firmly believe that a great trip is defined by the people you meet along the way, more than the place itself.

I began using Couchsurfing at the start of my 2018 Latin America trip. Stepping out solo was quite a challenge at the beginning, but the warmth of my hosts, who opened their doors (and hearts), made it a true backpacker welcome! Then I got to meet some more incredible hosts in Mexico, who not only introduced me to their city but also made me feel like a local!

More recently, I began hosting travelers myself! I can say this is an incredibly rewarding experience since touring them through my hometown has allowed me to see the place I was born with fresh eyes and enjoy it in new ways every time!

Music, Movies, and Books

I definitely think Brazilian music is the best in the world— all of it! But I also enjoy a bit of everything, from 80's disco to the folklore of my country, from afro-beats to chill pop. I'll absolutely want to listen to some of your local bands!

When it comes to books, I grew up with Harry Potter (millennial alert!), but I have a special devotion for Latin American authors. Gabriel García Márquez, Julio Cortázar, and Eduardo Galeano are at the top of my list.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One incredible thing I've done is hitchhiking in the middle of a freezing night and ending up on a snow plow in California. Another unforgettable experience was surfing on the beaches of Costa Rica, finally catching an awesome wave after months of learning and falling. Stepping out of my comfort zone always leads to great stories!

Teach, Learn, Share

Since I'm passionate about languages, I have the most fun learning and teaching local words and expressions. I know how to say "Thank you" in over 50 languages, and it always brings a smile to someone's face after expressing gratitude to them!

Also, I like sharing life's simple pleasures: engaging in deep conversations, a delicious meal with a nice bottle of wine, a good laughter, a walk in the park. I believe moments are more memorable when shared and remembered by many. :)

What I Can Share with Hosts

Safety, respect and kindness, above all. Also, I make the best brunches and prepare mate at any time of the day.
