About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To live simply, and passionately.

ABOUT ME

Currently working at a Charter School in the South Bronx while I develop my craft as an actor/performer in NYC. Living with my husband (married for just under a year!), two dogs, and two cats, in a cozy 2-bedroom apartment in West Harlem. Loving every second of it.

My husband Samuel is the Business Manager of the Charter School where I work. He stays even busier than I do, managing the financials as well as the HR for the three schools in the Charter School system! We both love to travel, and are excited for a future of more traveling!!

PHILOSOPHY

Support Your Local Everything.
"Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants." - Michael Pollan
"So vast is human art, so narrow human wit." - Alexander Pope
"Words, words. They're all we have to go on." - Tom Stoppard

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I was thrilled, knowing the potential isolation of the internet, to come across this site that encourages and provides opportunity for face to face, personal friendship and relationship building across the globe. I truly love meeting new people and listening to different life experiences, and sharing my own, as well as denying consumer capitalism by relying on actual people for support, and not hotels and big businesses.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I feel enriched, and so glad, that I've taken this leap with couchsurfing! I feel I have made good friends here, and have the potential to make so many more, and to give back to others in a crucial way. I can't imagine traveling any other way, now.

Interests

When I have free time, I love being able to sit quietly with a good book (you should see my collection of Gothic literature), or go for a walk, or a bike ride. My husband and I love to just sit and watch shows or movies on Netflix, and drink wine :). I love theatre (I have a bachelor's degree in performance!) and perform with community theatres whenever I get the chance. Musicals, especially!

We also love food, (and wine). We both love cooking and baking, when we have the time! Home, for me, is a good meal, a good glass of wine, and even better company.

Music, Movies, and Books

Books: Don't get me started! There are too many! I've recently enjoyed Goldfinch, The Rathbones, The Plover, Ocean at the End of the Lane...
Other favorites include Neverwhere, American Gods, Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell, and my Gothic lit collection, mostly The Monk, by Matthew Lewis. The Romantics and Transcendentalists, too!!

Music: Pink Martini, The Decembrists, Stars, Polyphonic Spree, Architecture in Helsinki, New Pornographers, Neko Case, Regina Spektor, Janelle Monae, and much more... I also happen to love musicals.

Movies: I love classic Hollywood cinema (30s and 40s), especially for its critical potential. I like everything from the subversive and psychological, to the supernatural, to the campy... as well as foreign films, and musicals, of many shapes and sizes.
PS>If I tell you a movie is "fascinating," that does NOT mean it's a "good" movie ;).

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I sang with a chorus on the steps of the Sacre Couer chapel in Paris, overlooking the city as the sun was setting.

I've been almost all over the United States.
I dodged Prairie Dogs on the biking trails outside Boulder, and hunted for ghosts in the Overlook Hotel in Estest Park, CO.
I ran through showers of pink cherry tree petals in Portland, OR.

I've slept under the stars in Bryce Canyon National Park, Zion National Park, Grand Canyon National Park, just to name a few. I've lost quarters in the slot machines at Vegas.

I've played in the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. Hiked pieces of the Appalachian Trail.
I've sung on the Epcot stage in Disney World. More than once!

Teach, Learn, Share

When I lived in Oklahoma City, I once had a couple from France and a young woman from Australia stay with me and my partner at the time, all at the same time, and I cooked them a traditional Southern breakfast with a vegetarian twist. Sitting down at the breakfast table, we chatted about food and our respective countries, and our travels. It was beautiful.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I love to cook, and never miss an opportunity to give back by providing a meal. I wish I knew more about the world and other cultures, so I'm eager to soak up every little bit of inside knowledge and understanding to know the world just a little bit better, as a human resident - not a tourist!
