About Me

ABOUT ME

I love being outdoors and doing active things like hiking, swimming, dancing, cartwheels, and acrobatic manouevres from playground monkey bars. I love to sing and have recently discovered the joys of fiddle music (listening and playing). I try to live very lightly on the planet and take great delight in creatively conserving and re-using all sorts of resources (water, electricity, curbside finds, clothing, etc.) I immensely enjoy the small things in life, like beautiful skies and yummy sandwiches and nice times spent with family and friends.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have only once had the pleasure of couchsurfing (officially through this site, that is) and it was a very lovely experience. I wish I could've stayed longer with that person because I felt that I learned so much from him. That has been my experience with all the informal "couchsurfing" experiences I have had - that I learn a tremendous amount from the people I meet and am very grateful for it all.

Interests

Outdoors activities, music, dance, play, creative means to live lightly and enjoyably on the planet while encouraging others to do the same, making meals, enjoying the company of family and friends, gardening and other permaculture pursuits, learning to look after our health naturally, buddhist meditation and other practices that bring us in touch with ourselves... oh gosh, the list could go on forever but these are a few that immediately spring to mind.

Music, Movies, and Books

I like people/ life stories and books, movies, and theatre that teach me new things.
Recently enjoyed movies include Tulpan, Everlasting Memories, Collateral Damage, Hidden Figures;
books include The Reader, How The Brain Changes Itself, The Secret Life of Bees, and some great kids books in French and Portuguese;
Favorite music includes a lot of folk (folk-rock, folk-pop, country folk, celtic/ bluegrass/ apalachian/ old time), lotsa acoustic; I also like old swing jazz, Portuguese fado and other world music, classical, some rock n' roll, some opera, some choral...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I managed to plant my garden early this year instead of sometime late in June!

Yesterday, I toured around my urban/industrial neighbourhood by cross country skiis. What a quirky adventure that was! There's nothing like a cold sunny winter's day with bright snow all around.

Teach, Learn, Share

If the knowledge and skills I have acquired can somehow help other folks, it makes me very happy to share. I'm always eager to share discoveries or info I think might benefit those around me. These days (January 2019), I'm likely to be talking about the potential benefits of intermittent fasting and eating a high fat/ low carb diet!
