About Me

ABOUT ME

I like meeting people, having fun, laughing, experiencing new things and trying to make life exciting and interesting.

When travelling, I of course like to meet other tourists and do touristy things... but I also love meeting local people and learning about real local things and real local life (food, drink, places, traditions, language, nature, history etc). For that reason, I use Couchsurfing as a way to learn about the reality of the places I travel to, and to meet local people.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

To learn about real local life from real local people. That's an experience which is invaluable... it's a much richer and more interesting way to travel. I like to hitchhike for similar reasons.

It's also a good way to make friends...

Interests

Travelling (obviously!), laughing, dark humour, cinema, film history, cooking, eating, hiking, getting drunk. meeting new people, reading, drinking beer, hitchhiking.

When I travel, I like to... eat local food, drink local beer, meet local people, visit anything religious/sacred, explore anything morbid/creepy/weird/strange, go hiking, explore nature, watch local theatre/cinema/music, get drunk, have a party, go to food markets, learn about local culture and discover hidden local places (whether they be eateries, bars, villages or nature).

I like to meet people who aren't afraid to be a bit silly and fun. It's easy to be shy and hide away but let's be brave and have fun and laugh and smile while we can.

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm massively interested in film study and film history, so I like loads of influential film directors like Bergman, Fellini, Lynch, PT Anderson, Bela Tarr, Charlie Kaufman, Kubrick, Haneke, Dreyer etc. But I also love some comedies and horrors too - I'm not a pretentious film fan (not all the time anyway).

My favourite authors are Dostoyevsky, Bret Easton Ellis, Flannery O'Connor, Murakami, Irvine Welsh, Tao Lin and more. I like to read things that say something interesting about life and how people think. I also love reading travel guides - even guides for places I have no plans to visit.

My favourite music includes The Smiths, Morrissey, The Knife, Broken Social Scene, Death Grips, Radiohead, Mogwai, PJ Harvey, The National, Hot Chip, Kate Bush, Arcade Fire and Kendrick Lamar. I also like a lot of ambient stuff, like Donato Wharton, Tim Hecker and Grouper.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Being alive...

Teach, Learn, Share

I think the best way to learn is to listen to other people about their lives and their stories. You can learn so much by just listening to other people. Everyone is the centre of their own universe and everyone has a story to tell and a lesson to teach.

If anyone is looking for help with their English then I'm happy to do that! I'm currently learning Spanish, so it would be good to meet other speakers (whether they're also learning or not).

I'm also happy to cook for surfers and hosts... I love food.

What I Can Share with Hosts

My stories, memories, thoughts and conversations. Hopefully we can make some new memories in our time together...

I'm also a very generous guy and always happy to help people out or contribute in any way I can.
