I am a traveler. In my travels I seek a better understanding of the world. I find that people all over the world are fantastic. We are all different in our ways and customs, but we all ultimately seek happiness and to leave a better world for our children. I believe that only through direct interaction with people can we understand each other. Not reading about them, not listening to media or politically motivated propaganda, nothing like that. Just meet the people and engage with them.

Warum ich bei Couchsurfing bin

I am new to Couchsurfing. I have only ever stayed once at a couchsurfing home but have never hosted anyone. (I will edit this profile when that changes).

I am trying this out to see if it's a good way to meet local people and have meaningful cultural engagement with people around the world. I have had some great experiences meeting airbnb hosts, but that is hit or miss, because sometimes airbnb hosts are just in it for the money and not into meeting people. I am hoping that a community such as Couchsurfind will be better for meeting people and even making friends.

I do not want to use Couchsurfing for free housing, nor to provide free housing if your reason is simply that you can't even afford a cheap hostel. That is why I had been using airbnb. With airbnb I pay the host some compensation, so I am not scamming free housing.

I do worry that I will be abusing people's hospitality by staying in their home for free, and I do worry that people will be using my home just as a free bed and not a way to engage. We shall see how this goes...
