Overview
About Me
Friendly, Committed, Helpful, Curious, Explorer
Amateur astronomer and photographer.
Volunteer in a few activities.
I like reading and going to the movies, especially SciFi or Fantasy stories.
I also enjoy hiking, especially in the country side.
I try to travel abroad once a year - usually to discover some new country I've never been to.
And lots, lots more, for you to discover - because the parts that really count, I usually am too modest to talk about (but feel free to read what others say about me below)
I'm also on BeWelcome. If you prefer to read my profile or contact me there check http://www.bewelcome.org/members/pauloaguia
PHILOSOPHY
Some say the sky is the limit
I say it's just the beginning!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Right now, I'm on CouchSurfing because I like to contact people from other places, travelers or not who can tell me about different places and different lifestyles than my own. I'm on CouchSurfing because I like to interact with these people - so there are far better chances for your request to be accepted if it is for a few nights rather than just one. One exception will be for walking pilgrims - I'll gladly host you for one night if you're passing by and send us a request.
I joined CS because I was travelling to the Baltic states and figured it would be a fun thing to learn about it from the locals. Turns out, by the time I went there, I had already hosted a few people and even surfed at one other place and realized that it would change my traveling style all together.
Couchsurfing also changed my life completely - it was through CS that I met my wife (https://www.couchsurfing.com/users/455406/profile). It took us more than a year to actually start being a couple and we got married two years after we met. That's definitely the best CS experience I've had so far :)
I've met some very interesting people, learned something new from almost each of them. My hosting and surfing experiences (both on CS and through other hospitaly websites) can be seen on this map: https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=zNZCcWD-HmMM.kaeSZchFPPfo
Besides hosting and surfing, I participate more or less actively in some CS groups, suggesting stuff to do, helping others make itineraries through the city or the country. Even if I can't host you, I may throw in a few tips if you ask nicely and tell me what you're looking for with your visit to Portugal :)

Music, Movies, and Books
The best music in the world is "Beautiful Day", by U2 :D
But I'm basically into any sort of music as long as it's not too heavy
I'll go see almost anything to the movies. But when I have a choice I usually choose either sci-fy/fantasy or adventure/action types of films.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I took people to the Moon, Saturn and Jupiter's moons - with my telescope, of course :)
I walked 350km from Porto to Santiago de Compostela, Muxía and Fisterra in less than 2 weeks. This was quite an experience!
Looking back on it now, I realize that meeting my wife through CS, keeping in touch, getting together and ending up getting married seems very fantastic to me, almost unreal :)

What I Can Share with Hosts

At the very least, a good conversation about pretty much any subject, be it politics, history or simply what I think about the place where you live.
