ABOUT ME

I do writing, research, and strategy for nonprofits and foundations.

And why should I not speak to you?

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've hosted a couple parties at my place, one exclusively for CSers, and another where I invited CSers. I've never hosted or surfed, but my sister and my boyfriend have both hosted a LOT of couch-surfers!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've couch-surfed with friends, and hosted couch-surfers at apartments where I've lived. I also lived in a coop house in San Francisco for 8 years, and we hosted lots of travelers, activists, friends, etc.

Interests

Dancing (disco, and two-step), roller coasters, languages and translations, 20th-century U.S. social history, and social justice movements. I enjoy and write about many different forms of storytelling.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love Kafka, Baldwin, Gogol, Twain, lots of others. In the way of movies, a few that spring to mind are Superbad, Night of the Hunter, Groundhog Day, Battleship Potemkin, Third Man, Koyaanisqatsi, etc. I dig the Beatles, Ryan Adams (not Bryan), queens of country like Dolly and Loretta, Al Green and other 70s soul greats, etc.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I tend to be thrilled by little things. Have seen/experienced some magnificent things in my travels in Central America, for example, but one of my favorites was seeing a little hummmingbird feeder in a national park that was full of the little creatures, and feeling the wind that their wings created against my face. Also, random conversations with people who are totally different from me is always exciting.

Teach, Learn, Share

I know a lot about the social and political history of San Francisco, especially 1960-1980. I write and podcast about storytelling in its many forms and uses. I'm skilled with grantwriting, development, and communications for nonprofit organizations. I'm always interested in learning more Spanish, Russian, or other languages. And fun little party tricks, practical skills, knot-tying, etc. are always welcome!
