About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I work far too much and need a new social life

ABOUT ME

Traveller: I am a different kind of traveller. I don't travel to see beaches, rarely travel to see normal sightseeing places, never travel to see sports or concerts, I travel so that I can see people and places. I usually travel alone or if I can find a friend to go along. Because I like to meet people I think this couchsurfing thing is interesting cuz I can meet people in different places this way.
Host: I've hosted international students before (homestay), but as I know a lot about staying with relatives and friends its why I'm most curious about being a host. I'm a great host. You will get a great reception from me, and I'll be happy to show you how to get around -- and if I'm available might even be able to show you some the sights personally.

PHILOSOPHY

My family has always believed in being great hosts and hospitable to visitors. I've a kind and caring heart, which a few times has been taken advantage of. But I continue to give. I don't give in anticipation of receiving -- but I have always been blessed with receiving so much from my kindness.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am both a couch surfer and a host.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've stayed with friends and relatives a lot. I'm easy to get alone with. I don't demand a lot. In fact as a visitor I usually am very independent. My first adult travel was when I was 17 and I travelled alone from Florida, all across Canada, down to Mexico. It was 9 weeks of great learning.

Interests

I'm a computer nerd, ok, that nerd comment is a bit too strong. I have been using computers since 1978, they are an integral part of my life -- and now the Internet is integral in my life. I'm a Mac user, have been for years and years, but fully conversant with Windows.
I love to see people, see culture, see people and culture interacting. I love to learn languages, alas at my advanced age (hee hee) my love and my abilities are no longer working out to retaining what I learn.
I've lived in Haiti, a third world country, visited extensively in the Philippines, and also lived in Japan. So you see that I love to go and see and live (where possible) in different countries.
I love to watch movies (even if I have seen them before). My favourite kinds are War, Suspense, Mystery, Action, Science Fiction. I love to listen to Jazz music and Gospel music (that's the two groups with the most songs on my iTunes).

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: Jazz, Contemporary Christian, Pop/Rock, Classical

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I had the chance to visit Ghandi's original Ashram in India -- its a museum now. I have both watched the Ghandi movie and read a few books about the time of his life when he was influencing India. Not to mention my visit to 7 cities in India in 2008 over a three week period. It was really inspiring to see the actual Ashram that this incredible man lived in and taught from.
The first time I "smelled" Haiti will never leave my mind. Driving into Port-au-Prince in 1978 from the airport and we turned a corner and the smell just came barreling in the windows of the car. It was my first experience to have such a sudden introduction to a place. Not that it was a bad smell, but it is one that has never left my memories.
I've been to the Philippines 6 times -- and I don't hang out at beaches. Learning about this amazing country has helped me understand more about the people who the 'servants' around the world (nurses, janitors, maids and more).

Teach, Learn, Share

I have a vast treasure of trivia that will amaze you -- or annoy you. I love to talk, especially if its about me, about where I live, or where I've lived before ---- and of course where I've traveled to.

Countries I’ve Visited

Bahamas, Dominican Republic, France, Haiti, India, Jamaica, Mexico, Philippines, Puerto Rico, South Korea, United Arab Emirates
