One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I once woke up early in the mountains of Norway, it was close to Christmas and there was lots of snow. Three of us went cross country ski-ing in fresh snow, we were the first on the trail as it'd just gotten light. After a few kilometres all of a sudden a huge pack of hundreds of reindeer ran across our path, maybe 50 metres ahead. The ground shook and the feeling of being so close to something so alive in that type of surrounding was something I'll never forget.

Over the past 6 years after leaving my home town of Manchester, I've found myself much more at home in the nature, in the mountains and away from busy cities. It's harder to find special, more quiet places but well worth the patience. I found a "pueblo" just west of the Sierra Nevada and Alpujarra mountains in the South of Andalucia, Espana. I got lucky and rented a small house. Some mornings I would take a coffee at a local bar, and often joined by either a farmer with a pet goat or some farmers on horses. The village bakery delivered bread and hung it on your door, and everyone knew everyone else from being young. It is one of the most incredibly idealistic places I have ever visited, and the whole year I spent there was a joy.
