ABOUT ME

Hello, my name is Benjamin. I am 22 and have been living here in Tacoma all of my life. I've been to Mexico, Canada, Germany, England, Austria, and most of the western U.S. I've also been to New York and Chicago. My preferred method of traveling is by Bicycle. I have yet to do a real tour. My longest ride was 200 miles from Tacoma to Portland in one day (I got lost and rode 40 extra). I work for a production company called Northwest Staging and Sound and am part of the I.A.T.S.E. Seattle Local 15 stagehand's union. I am a collective member and volunteer at Second Cycle, Tacoma's only community bicycle program. I am heavily involved with music and spend most of my waking life thinking about it, listening to it, making fun of it, and of course playing it. I am pretty easy going. I like to spend a few nights a week in bars (when I can afford it). I like singing karaoke because the local karaoke bar actually has good music.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've only hosted once, and never surfed. My one hosting experience was fun. It is nice to take a look at my hometown from an outsider's point of view. I don't get to do that much!

Music, Movies, and Books

I just gave up reading Infinite Jest ('Infinite Book' I have lovingly dubbed it)for the second time. Nine Stories, The Sun Also Rises and Brave New World are all books I've read over the past 6 months. I'm way into all of them. I rarely watch movies, but I live 3 blocks away from the Independent Movie Theater. I listen to mostly vinyl, partially out of necessity as my computer isn't much to write home about and I don't have any portable music device short of a walkman from the 80s. That being said, I LOVE: Elliott Smith, The Smiths, The Beatles, Lou Reed/ The Velvet Underground, Television, The Feelies, Joy Division, Roy Orbison, Hank Williams, Retribution Gospel Choir, Smog/ Bill Callahan, Fugazi, The Talking Heads/ David Byrne, Brian Eno, Joanna Newsom, Nick Drake, Al Green, Claude Debussy, Dilute, Deerhoof, Don Caballero, Battles, Slint, American Football, The Nightgowns, Igor Stravinsky, Trans Union, Heatmiser, T Rex, Chris Bell, Alex Chilton, Big Star, The Kinks, Friskey, Eyes of Autumn, and the list goes on.
