About Me

I just moved to Sherbrooke and I'm actually living in Lennoxville, a borough 5 km south of Sherbrooke city centre. Although I wanna pay back to this community as much as I can and as soon as possible, I live with a roommate in a house, so I need to make sure he is okay before I can host you! I will do my best to convince him!

Hey !
My name is Pei (or Xingpei Li 李星霈 as full name)

I am from China and moved to Canada in 2015, and since then have been studying, working and living in this vaaaaaaast and coooooooold land.

Couchsurfing suggests a Motto (what is motto, actually?) for introduction in profile, well, I don't have one, but I have a tattoo instead of motto (motto sounds like a mind tattoo ? ) on my arm. It's Fac et Spera, I think it is sort of my motto so far, or forever since it has been on my body ... If I regret later, I would just add a new tattoo of "No" or "Non" before it, I guess then a new motto for updating my Couchsurfing profile!

I know easy-going is cliche, but I'm indeed easy going with anything happened and will happen in my life. One thing I expect and make me excited is to get to know someone different and explore something new, something different and creative (yea cliche but longer!). And I do have a bit sense of humour, as my friends' laughs can prove it or even more if someone can speak with me in Chinese;)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I love history and cultural geography, and I used to learn both from books such as ethnographies, folklore surveys, but I do believe that I can get a much better understanding of those from people who live in a certain historical and geographical context, i.e. Locals. So I would love to meet with other people, who bring their own characteristics to the places they live .

Also, trust me, traveling alone in a place you have never been to is not a wise choice ....I want to know people living in a place I'm visiting or visiting me from a place I've never been to, and then make friends with them. Couchsurfing is one of the best ways to achieve it.

Music, Movies, and Books

Books;
I read a lot, basically reading is the only activity after work time (yea the bloody long and cold winter in Canada confines you indoor) apart from walking dog. Currently fascinated with Italo Calvino, and always a big fan of Jorge Luis Borges and Gabriel García Márquez. I also like non-fictions, lots of ethnography books and histories. I still often read some sort of academical books , and now because I'm interested in Nationalism, I am into the works from some scholars such as Benedict Andersons. I can list quite a lot for books anyways

Music
Beatles! also other British bands, Queen, the Clash, Pink Floyd, Stone Roses, Joy Division, The Cure, Radiohead(a British friend strongly recommended if I wanna find a host:), Oasis, Blur, The Verve, Travis, Coldplay.... a lot of British bands anyways. and Leonard Cohen, Neil Young, Bob Dylan ... list goes on
--
Movies,.. I do watch a lot, but can not list favourite ones now. but my favourites are actually documentaries.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Come to Newfoundland and Labrador? I guess it could be, as it challenges my knowledge about how small a population could be in a vast area from a Chinese's eyes.

Some hitchhiking experiences. They were amazing, but not done by myself, and would not have been done without the helps from the amazing people I met. Hitchhiked across Quebec and Atlantic Canada (over 2500 kms) in summer of 2016. And just finished hitchhiking around Taiwan and a bit hitchhiking in New Zealand! I also hitchhiked in Yunnan, a southwest province in China. I am always a big fan of hitchhiking and do it anytime possible, because it makes 'transport' during travel much more interesting, not just a physical move.

Also, I took a 48 hours train to Tibet. I only had shorts with me because I thought it was summer! But I was totally wrong as some places in Tibet is freaking cold even in summer because of its high altitude. When we stopped in Tanggula Pass (over 5000 meters elevation), I was the only one wearing only shorts, while others had winter coats...It was pretty "cool!"

Teach, Learn, Share

I am currently into writing, such as stories and essays, and have some published (I'm now finishing a picture book for children, and I'm the storyline writer), but I would like to explore more with whoever having same interests in writing or literature, etc. Also, travel and meeting with other people have always been inspiring my writing in creating fictional stories, and so far I think I'm good at including travel experiences into the stories while in a fictional way.
