CURRENT MISSION

I'm on a cross-country art trip to attend a plein air event in Oregon and decided to take the loooong, scenic way. I'll be making art, taking photos, and blogging the entire way.

ABOUT ME

Long story short I left my cushy salaried job in early 2012 to try to make a living as an artist. Things are slow to take off (as expected), but I'm rediscovering how to live well but cheaply . . . at least until the book deal comes in--heh. I love a good spoof or a dirty joke, I'm a practical optimist (always have a Plan B), and though I usually come off as reserved and quiet that's only because I'm taking your measure to see how much of the out-loud me you'd be comfortable with. I'm the person my friends know they can ask "do these pants make my butt look big?" and get an honest answer. I always root for the underdog (unless we're talking home-teams here), I like to sing out loud in the car, and my favorite kind of chocolate is served in a cup.

PHILOSOPHY

Do no harm. If it isn't broke don't fix it, but a coat of paint will make it awesome. Live with as few regrets as possible (but better to be damned 'cause you did than damned 'cause you didn't).

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm new to the 'surfing community, but I'm looking forward to meeting new people, getting their perspectives on the places they live, their local culture. My own house is rented out to the hilt so right now I can't reciprocate as a host, but I hope a positive experience as a surfer will inspire me to find ways to make hosting feasible on a regular basis.

I took trapeze classes and did a catch on my first day!

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm able to teach anything dealing with basic drawing, illustration, use of color pencils, basic home improvement, gardening, biology, and cooking. I'm a jack of all trades, really. I would love to learn more about cooking (esp. ethnic or advanced), improve my pastel or painting skills (non-existent) and portrait/figure drawing skills, learn and apply new languages . . . I'm pretty much down for learning everything.
