About Me

** Out of town and unable to host until end of month **

I'm about thisclose to starting grad school at the University of Maryland in Washington DC, to get a double MA/MS degree in History and Library Science. As an undergrad I studied history and have always wanted to enter the field of archives! In my senior year of college, I spent a semester abroad in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and ended up going back right (this time with my German Shepherd in tow!) after graduation to live for 2 more years. My husband and I just moved to D.C. after a few years in Houston, where I'm originally from - and are excited to explore this fun new city!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

We are an international couple and having met via traveling, have an innate love for travel and passion for meeting others who feel the same!

Interests

In the time that I'm not in a library, I'm a foster mom to rescue dogs. I've always loved dogs, growing up on a farm we always had a ton of pets! My biggest weakness in life is a dog in need - if I have any extra space or time, it will go to a dog who needs help. My husband is a chef and we LOVE food of all kinds. Tell us about the food where you are from and we'll never run out of things to talk about!

Music, Movies, and Books

I read a lot. Like, a lot a lot. I love books and learning! I have a tattoo that covers my calf of a stack of old books, with a quote from my all-time favorite, The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test by Ken Kesey. It says "If you label it this, then it can't be that," which I've taken as my mantra to always keep an open mind and reject the categories people like to sort things into... labels only put distance between people like "us" and people like "them," and do nothing to create unity and peace.

We also watch a ton of shows and movies... if it's out there, I have probably heard of it! Our favorites are OITNB, Breaking Bad & Better Call Saul, Peaky Blinders, Mad Men, The New Girl, and The Last Man on Earth. And Shark Tank!

I sometimes lose entire days of my life binge watching Law and Order SVU.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

When I left to study abroad, I thought I was so daring to leave home for 4 months. Little did I know, I would find the adventure of a lifetime in my (now) husband Guille. Being with someone from another country has its challenges, especially when we are closer to one family than the other and miss out on things, but it is NEVER boring! Even right now, our daily conversations about the American elections with me trying to explain superdelegates and the electoral college... it has us cracking up over how crazy this world can be! Having met each other solely because I, as an American, have access to privileges many others in the world only dream of, we are both passionate about reaching out to people from other places and bridging the gaps that are created by invisible borders.
