Chi sono
I think the best part of travelling is spending time with local folks and finding out about them and their lives and culture. I am curious, open-minded, easy going and adaptable. I try to be aware, to laugh with people whenever I can. I enjoy stimulating conversation, being challenged by different points of view, and having new things to think about. I also like being silly and playful.

Interessi
Things I enjoy include:
Conversations punctuated by smiles and laughter, cycling away from the city, making films, songwriting and composing music, skydiving, ziplining and abseiling through waterfalls, laughing 'til it hurts, playing guitar and singing, doing Reiki, silly humour, being in nature, looking at animals, birds and insects, being in a tent when there is a lightning storm, jamming with other musicians/singers, and scuba-diving.

Musica, film e libri
I like movies that grab me emotionally and make my brain work too. Favourite directors would be folks like David Lynch, Coen Brothers, Shane Meadows.
Favourite music? Beatles, Bowie, Randy Newman, The Kinks, TMBG, Bach, early Genesis, The Sensational Alex Harvey Band.
Books: Kurt Vonnegut is my favourite author - he seems to genuinely love humanity despite its' failings and flaws, and I enjoy his philosophy.
I like Philip K Dick too, scarily prophetic... oh, and I like dipping into Winnie the Pooh books for pure absurd pleasure.
Una cosa incredibile che ho fatto
One? Here are three things, things I still think about and discuss to this day.
1) I was fortunate enough to spend time in a village on a small island near West Timor where subsistence whaling, practised for centuries, done from boats made entirely of wood and sanctioned by the international community, was all but at an end and change was happening very fast; I was able to go out on the whaling boats and observe the time of change first hand.
2) I visited funeral and wedding rituals in Rantepao, Indonesia, where animals are slaughtered for food in full view of the whole community as a commonplace accepted part of the ritual and pomp and circumstance of the ceremonies.
The reason these two things grabbed me is because they are extraordinary examples of living cultures with values worlds away from my own, and the experiences taught me a lot about my own attitudes, conditioning and prejudices. Excellent and extreme times.
Another particularly vivid jaw-dropping moment was as I rounded the corner after a hard ascent to suddenly catch sight of the Pinnacles, a natural formation of huge limestone rocks in Gunun Mulung National Park in Sarawak, Borneo. Truly astonishing.
