About Me

[ENGLISH VERSION]

I'm a man in search of wonder and good people. Grew up in the north of England near to the border with Scotland, but moved to Manchester 20 years ago to write and edit magazines: first one about nightclub technology then one on architecture/light art. Travelled around the world with both, but at the end of 2014 I quit my job to go explore the places I hadn't been. After that I returned to Manchester to work as a freelance writer/editor, but for the past couple of years I’ve been off working in Spain as a teacher (doing less and less freelance work on the side). Basically im avoiding union jacks and Manchester winters ;)

I'm easy going, left leaning, kind minded and eager to learn what the world is all about.

**Sería ideal si hablaras español -necesito practicar mucho :)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

It's easy to travel the world and only ever skim the surface. I'd like to get to know places properly and the best way to do that is through the eyes of like-minded locals.
I returned home after a year on the road and want to keep the adventure going - by bringing the journey to me! - but I'm only just getting round to making that happen.
I'm also trying to learn spanish - which I started on my way around South America - so would be good to get some practice in... if you've got the patience to listen to me mangle your language! (Apologies in advance.)

Music, Movies, and Books

MUSIC: Elliot Smith, Money, Alt J, Radiohead, Moses Sumney, Phoenix, First Aid Kit, Billie Holiday, Frank Ocean...
MOVIES: 12 Angry Men (favourite), Moonlight (the last film that blew me away)
BOOKS: working through the classics. It's a mixed bag.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Friends and family seem to think quitting a job after 12 years to go travelling is amazing (or maybe foolish). I'm not sure.
I secretly left postcards around the world for strangers to find, fill in and post back to me. Not that amazing, but gave me a kick to get the replies.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'd like to improve my Spanish (it still needs a lot of work) and can offer some authentic northern English lessons/practice in return.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I reckon I'm fairly easy going - if you can only offer a sofá to sleep on, then that's totally cool. But if you want to talk about the world, where you're from, where I'm from, life and the rest of it, then that's even better!

Countries I’ve Visited
