About Me

Married with kids. It's all about the family. That's why I'm telecommuting and working on location in St. Paul. I spent six years in the US Navy in the 80's. I want to college later in life to better my families situation. My work is technical so I'm good with computers and networking systems. I love to help which worked great in my last job.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

My work is going to be a hybrid at my new place of employment . To start I need to be on location to learn the skill set specific to my job description. That being the case I'll need a week or two place to stay and would like to meet new people while in the St. Paul area. After a couple of weeks I'll be telecommuting and will only be away from home a couple of days per week. I have a home with a wonderful family waiting for me. I don't want to spend the money on a lonely efficiency for a little over one week stay per month. Motels are not much better. l like to walk, bike, and cross country ski. Can't do that with hotel staff.

Interests

People, my work is about helping people. My first job at Social Services was particularly rewarding in regard to the (likely) lifelong friendships my wife and I developed there. I raise tilapia, garden, have made wine, fly rc helicopter, am scuba certified, bike, cross country skit, and walk on a regular basis.

Music, Movies, and Books

My all time favorite book is Stephen Covey's 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. Some others I've enjoyed are Shadow Divers, Good to Great, Alien, The 8th Habit, and numerous Robert A. Heinlein books.

I enjoy most well done movies. I'll sit down with my wife and watch her movies. I say hers as in if the person dies slowly of some painful illness it's a good movie to her. I'm more into happy endings. If not happy there needs to some believable space journey or decent explosion. And if people have to die it needs to be quick.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I saved my sisters life once. She was choking and it was scary. One good pull to the stomach and out it came. Not telling you what she was eating because it's one of my favorite places to eat. Not so amazing but notable.

The grooviest thing I've ever done besides being a father (personal favorite), feeling wise, maybe the most exciting. Well that would have to be pushing the button to fire an SM1 surface to air missile at a drone when I was in the navy. It was the only time (thankfully) in my life I had tunnel vision. That's a story for another time.

Teach, Learn, Share

What can I teach you,
I can teach you how to use MS word, excel, power point, access. Help you re-install windows 3..11, 98, ME, XP, 7, 8, and most recently 10, Linux pretty much every flavor . Network your house, setup lan security. Setup media servers. Teach you how to fly RC helicopter, make wine, raise tilapia, setup windows domain servers and ESXI virtual servers We can fix your computer hardware. Do you want to build your own server? We can do that too.
What do I want to learn,
Well, I probably could use learning how to cook healthy. That would be like the flowers I dropped off at my wife's work. Something I can learn and re-give sort of thing. But most of all I just like to help, teach, or share stories.

What I Can Share with Hosts

My family does a lot of canning. I'd be happy to share some tasty jellies or jams. My wife makes grandma's awesome pickles. See above for sharing my skills.
