About Me

I write music, I sing songs, and I wish I were Tom Waits sometimes. I love long walks on the beach, if by long walks on the beach you mean glancing around smoky diners at 4 in the morning. I've been living in Bellingham, WA for the past couple of years and really enjoying it, but my music sends me off to strange corners of the world sometimes.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm interested in hangin' out in some of the rainier parts of the world sometimes and it's not always so easy to keep my laptop and guitar dry.

Interests

My life is my music (I play a resonator guitar named Rosalie and write what I like to call 'Northwest Devil Swing'). Aside from that I like to read a lot, cook fancy meals, play a lot of Magic the Gathering (a wonderfully nerdy collectible card game in which I can pretend to be a wizard), I'm a decent bowler, and I generally like any sort of outdoor activity that involves short bursts of technical skill (skiing, bouldering, surfing, et cetera).

Music, Movies, and Books

Tom Waits, Mississippi John Hurt, Andrew Bird, Django Reihardt, Cake, and Mos Def are probably top on my list for tunes right now. My latest literary pursuits have been endlessly re-reading Steinbeck and finding as many new Haruki Murakami books as I can. The best movie ever made is the 1930s Robin Hood starring Errol Flynn. This is not a debatable fact.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I'm pretty excited about the fact that my band has released a record on Vinyl. If you're interested in hearing us you can check us out on bandcamp. We're called Hot Damn Scandal.

Teach, Learn, Share

I have a decent background in music theory that folks have found interesting to tap in to before, I never mind providing a little musical entertainment for the evening, I really enjoy cooking when I can, and if I do well selling my CDs I'm always stoked to have a few drinks on me around a pool table somewhere. Also, I will play all the board games with you. Every last one of them. Preferably not Monopoly. That game is bad.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm always down to replace the dishwasher for the extent of any stay anywhere, and I'm pretty handy with manual labor as long as I'm pointed in the right direction (diggin' holes, lifting rocks, pulling weeds and such). I'll also transfer any and all of my music from my electronics to yours.
