About Me

Hello!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I love to connect with people of all sorts, and have a knack for making connections with new people, even when just engaging in conversation - for thirty minutes, an hour, maybe three, with strangers I might not see again, from all walks of life; I love to travel and want to explore places on a deeper level; I consider travel a foundational element of my life as a budding literary and academic individual who wants to pursue further schooling and education opportunities as a student of the world and of what I read

Interests

I care a lot about reading and writing and have pretty much always been into literature academically and otherwise since before I recognized how or why. Yet I also really love learning from people, equally or at least as much as I do learning from books, depending on the day. I am comfortable with myself, and I am often equally comfortable spending time at length with other people - though as an extroverted introvert, I sometimes prefer long, intense conversations, small groups, and hang sessions to parties and larger gatherings.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music:
In recent years, I have been listening to lots of hip-hop and jazz, and I love cross-genre (but we are in a post-genre world, aren't we, they say...!) collaborations of hip-hop, jazz, funk, rock, and more. I love Chance the Rapper, Kendrick Lamar, John Williams, Vulfpeck, A Tribe Called Quest, Snarky Puppy, Pink Floyd, Deep Purple, Roots Manuva, New Order/Joy Division, Electric Light Orchestra, and more.

Movies:
Really into film adaptations of literature, particularly from Latin America and classical Europe, like Fellini Satyricon. I love Fellini's films and am getting into Luis Buñuel, but also Star Wars, Inception, The Matrix, Children of Men, and more.

Books:
Jorge Luis Borges and other Southern Cone writers like Cortázar, García Márquez, Leopoldo Marechal, Luisa Valenzuela, Ezequiel Martínez Estrada, and more; Mexican metafictitious writers like Valeria Luiselli, Cristina Rivera Garza, and Josefina Vicens; literary theorists from around the world; Dune by Frank Herbert and some other epic science fiction!; Harry Potter; classical philosophy; Petronius; Vergil; Homer; film theory on some of the above

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Traveling with little to no money or prospects

While I think this is more of a culmination of my experiences bringing me to the point where I did this, I recently took a 60 hour Greyhound trip from Cleveland, Ohio to Seattle, Washington, during which I constantly took in my changing surroundings and engaged in long conversations with numerous new people.

In addition, entirely irrespective of my more recent travels, such as the ones surrounding and including my 60 hour and 30 hour bus trips and the like, I have visited all 48 continental states in the US.

Teach, Learn, Share

I have various interests and budding skills. I could definitely help teach you English or even classical Latin, and I actually have spent hundreds of hours tutoring in languages.

Perhaps even more exciting to me than the language itself would be engaging in literary close reading of a text or speech, particularly with attention to theoretical and cultural constructs.

I would like to learn more about music, the culture of the places I visit, things to do, the value of friendship and positive relationships, and so much more!

What I Can Share with Hosts

Endless streams of optimism, buoyancy, energy

Dramatic poetry and prose recitation in Spanish and English - those of others, and my own

Hundreds of amusing and in-depth stories of the people I have met and things I have seen and done (I have a strong memory for this sort of thing, and it helps me to contextualize my life and development around what I do and who I meet, not just some nebulous notion of identity extrinsically based in culturally imperialist motives)

Samples of food and other things I bring along with me

Countries I’ve Visited

Argentina, Canada, Chile, Costa Rica, Mexico, Peru

Countries I’ve Lived In

Argentina, Colombia, Peru, United States
