About Me
Leaving my job as an architect in the US; moving abroad to experience the history and culture of Europe -- hoping to meet some cool people and learn a bit about myself along the way.
I grew up in Chicago, Austin, and Dallas, so I've split my life between pretty different American cities. I've learned every place has unique ups and downs, and experiencing it all helps us grow.
I'm a musician, and really enjoy going to local shows, learning about what's happening musically and culturally in different cities, and just wandering/exploring around. If you're a like-minded music enthusiast, I'll probably really gravitate towards you.
I love talking about music, history, literature, nature, science, philosophy, politics (not a Trump supporter, FYI -- happy to give my take on American politics for anyone interested on a local perspective; I'm more engaged than most people I know, and I like to believe my opinions are always open-minded and subject to change in the face of better evidence. Even if we don't agree, I enjoy any discussion that's respectful and intellectual).
Since I'm new to the Couchsurf community, I know I don't have a ton of references. Anything you want to know about me feel free to ask -- I'm an open book.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Some tragic shit unfolded in my life, so I made a commitment to never take my freedoms for granted again.
While my reasons for leaving home are mostly personal, I think long-term goals are important. I'd like to be working for an architecture firm in either Amsterdam, Rotterdam, London or Berlin within the next three months. In the meantime, I'd like local perspectives on these places. What is your day-to-day life like? What are some of your favorite spots? Also, hostels are great for meeting people, but I enjoy the depth of a one-on-one conversation. It's always felt more comfortable for me.
Finally, I'm more than happy to offer you my home in the future. San Francisco, Chicago, Austin, Dallas, Denver and New York City are all American cities I have connections in. When I have a place of my own here, you are guaranteed to be invited over for dinner, drinks, and a good time.

Music, Movies, and Books
Authors: Orwell, Huxley, Nietzche, Jung, Dostoyevsky, Neumann, Lightman, Klosterman, Miller, Solzhenitsyn, Harris, Dennett, Hitchens, Dawkins, Gould, Harari; tried to read Thoreau, but couldn't get through the eight-hundred verses about planting beans. I'm not saying he *definitely* fucked a bean plant (where and how does one even), but I can't rule it out, either. It was slightly uncomfortable to read.
Bands: True Widow, Beach Fossils, DIIV, Sun Kil Moon, Alex G, My Bloody Valentine, Cigarettes After Sex, George Clanton, James Blake, Frankie Cosmos, The Smiths, Spooky Black, Ringo Deathstarr, Toro y Moi, Thelonious Monk; fairly eclectic. (swapping Spotify playlists would be a slightly dreamy way of getting to know each other)
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Played drums at a live music festival on the back of a flat-bed truck. Yolo
What I Can Share with Hosts
I'm known to cook eggplant parmesan, pasta aglio olio, moonstruck eggs, and/or some sauteed veggies for my hosts...
As a guest, I take it upon myself to help clean, do dishes, etc. Seems like fair recompense (I may secretly also just enjoy doing dishes).
Beyond that, conversating with you, playing music together, exploring the city, or just hanging out and watching a movie together -- down for whatever. I'm here to learn, share, and help you fulfill yourself, too.
