About Me

Hi, my name is Peter and I am a recent college grad. I am currently planning a month-long solo backpacking trip throughout Europe as a complement to my recent college experience. I will be traveling through Paris, Brussels, Bruges, Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Berlin, Prague, Athens, and hopefully London. The trip is still in the works. . . Anyway, I am both pretty excited to see new places and meet more people.

As a person, I tend to define myself in the context of my school work. Honestly, there is nothing more that I love to to do than to learn. The best learning experiences I've had have always been through the kind and loving people I have met in my life. I hope to continue to do this by meeting more people through CS.

For most people, I have been a college student that has studied Physics at a small private liberal arts college in the middle of Iowa. For others, I am an athlete who knows how to swim and play water polo. They may also see me as a musician who plays the cello, but has recently got his fingers into playing an old baroque instrument called the Viol de Gamba in his college's music group.

In truth, I embrace all of those things equally. It is an aim to my education to experience a vast diversity of academic, athletic, and creative activities. I am now trying to diversify my experience further by meeting more people through couchsurfing.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Much of the rationale for explaining why I am on couchsurfing is written above in the "About Me" section.

However, I will like to add that I really appreciate how much more locals know their cities than your standard tourists. I personally believe that all locals know whats best to see (and whats not) in their city. They have a strategic advantage in knowing where's the best food is, when a place is too crowded, how to get around, and many other wonderful things.

Music, Movies, and Books

So far, I don't have a favorite piece of musics yet. However, I do tend to enjoy listening to classic 1970s and 1980s rock anthems. Some of my favorite artists of that era are Elton John, The Beatles, Queen, and Michael Jackson. But that isn't to say that I do not enjoy listening to modern music too. For example, I enjoy listening to music written by Passenger, U2, The Lumineers, and Lukas Graham.

My movies tend to have philosophical and spiritual undertones. For instance, some of my favorite movies include Good Will Hunting, Growing Op, and Boyhood. However, I have somehow gotten very comfortable with watching a lot of action movies such as Avengers.

Out of all these activities, I spend the most of my time reading. I mainly read classic american fiction like The Great Gatsby, The Grapes of Wrath, In Cold Blood, Old Man and the Sea and other great classic novels. My favorite American novels come from F.Scott Fitzgerald.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

A year ago, I helped build a weather balloon that was sent up to the upper layers of the Earth's atmosphere. Then, I drove halfway across the state of Iowa to recover it . . . Only to find out a couple of days later that the balloon's space probe, along with its camera, were run over by a farmer's gigantic lawn mower.

Teach, Learn, Share

I tend to talk about current events with my friends. However, if you do not enjoy talking about the news, I will happy to discuss other topics including my interests in technology, social media, urban development, stuff on netflix, and other things.

What I Can Share with Hosts

When hosted, I'll do my best to entertain you with a series of stories. In turn, I will certainly do my best in listening to your experiences as well. If we end up going somewhere to eat, I will be glad to cover all the costs. I will also make sure that to treat others' space and belongings with the utmost respect.
