About Me

Hey there,

I'm Peter, I'm 22 years old, I'm from Slovakia. I come from a little city in the eastern part of Slovakia, where I grew up and spent most of my life. Currently though, I am living in the north of Denmark, in a city called Aalborg where I moved 3,5 years ago when I began my university studies here. I'm still living here, but in about 6 months I will be moving out as I will go on an internship abroad. I study Development and International Relations.

My biggest interest would have to be foreign languages. I like the diversity of languages there is in this world and if I could, I would just learn all of them..which is kind of my problem. Sometimes this obsession makes me start learning many of them at a time, so much so that I end up actually not learning any of them properly. I have become better at dealing with this issue and focusing on one thing at a time though. I speak Slovak, Czech, English and French fluently, and I speak Danish relatively fluently. I am still learning it, but sometimes I feel like the learning process will never stop. I mean, I know it will never stop. You can't learn any foreign language entirely after all. But this shouldn't be an excuse. You can still reach a pretty damn good level if you work hard and regularly, which I feel like I do. I should be less of a perfectoinist when it comes to language learning though. The more I learn the more I feel like I know nothing!

Besides languages, I like politics and international relations, which is what I study at the university actually. I like to discuss everything and anything, and Couchsurfing gives me a fantastic opportunity to meet people from all around the world with different worldviews and different opinions.

I like travelling in general. If I could I would travel much more often than I do, but then again I am studying and earning money right now, so there's not much I can do about it. One day I will depart on an epic journey around the world though. The idea of roaming around wherever is very tempting for me. Maybe I will do it on foot? Maybe on my bike? Maybe I will hitchhike? Who knows. But travelling and seeing different places is very important for me. As of now I have done three big bicycle trips and lots of other not-so-conventional trips. While I travel, I like to make things unnecesarily complicated for myself just for the sake of making lots of memories. These are much more important for me than money and carreer. What do I want to remember when I'm old? The times when I was earning money in my 20's, or the times when I ended up cycling in north-western Germany in complete darkness during the night on my own, not having a clue on where to go and almost bumping in sheep? Hmm?? :) I don't like fancy hotels or big cities or anything like that too much. Meeting the locals and going to small villages and communities, and seeing little, hidden, non-touristy, not mainstream places is way more valuable for me. I believe it is a more of an authentic experience to visit such places compared to big cities.

Besides this I like cooking, which I find it very relaxing after a long and busy day.

I started Couchsurfing about 2,5 years ago here in Aalborg by hosting all kinds ofpeople, and this is what I have mostly been doing ever since. It has been a fantastic experience so far to meet all the new and frienly faces, and make new friends all around the globe, and I don't feel like stopping anytime soon.

I have always had a roommate and thus I could accomodate 1-3 people at my place, but right now I started to live with my lovely girlfriend Andrea and the layout of the apartment has been slightly altered. We sold one of the beds and made my room into a living room. Sure, there is more space here right now, but only one couch. We can still probably host up to three people, it's just that only one of them can sleep on the couch. The others have to sleep on the floor.

I am a vegan.

Looking forward to hosting you/being hosted by you. :)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Couchsurfing gives a unique way to come to contact with new people from all around the world. As I am a huge fan of that, I can confirm that Couchsurfing is one of the best means to make it happen. What I like about it the most is that it allows you to get to know people and the area where you stay at a personal level as the Couchsurfers tend to have a very good knowledge about the place they live in. The people are representing and the area where they reside so staying with them can be a truly enriching experience instead of for example sleeping in a hotel room. Moreover they can give you tons of useful tips and advices if you are simply passing by.

Music, Movies, and Books

I listen to a lot of different genres of music but my all time favorite are djent, blues, jazz and folk music. When it comes to some of the specific bands/musicians I will have to cite Meshuggah, Daniel Jakubovic, Jamiroquai, B.B. King, Lindsey Stirling, Natasja, Horkýže Slíže, Tommy Emmanuel, Billy Cobham, Seether, Joe Satriani, John Petrucci, and many more. I mostly listen to music that is not too popular/well known. I absolutely love Balkan music!

I don't watch movies or series as I think they are a waste of time. This doesn't apply, when it comes to going to the cinema or watching a movie with friends.

As for the books, I don't really read a whole lot as I find it complicated to stay concentrated. I feel like doing whatever else there is to do. However, when I do read, it can be pretty much everything.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've done lots of crazy (stupid) trips, but these ones probably stand out the most:

July 2016 - Bicycle tour from Aalborg to Prague (Denmark, Germany, Czech Republic), around 1100 km, 13 days, a LOT of flat tires.
June-July 2017 - Bicycle tour from Aalborg to Bern (Denmark, Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, France, Luxembourg, Switzerland), a bit more than 2000 km, 38 days.
October 2017 - Le Tour De Danemark, bicycle tour around the country, 12 days.

I can tell you more once we meet :)

Teach, Learn, Share

I can tell you about my trips and maybe inspire you to do something similar (though many times I wouldn't actually recommend doing what I do to be honest :D ). Other than that I can teach/practice all the languages I know...and maybe even the ones I don't know, cause why not. What else, well I can teach you how to cook. I love cooking and I do it amost every day so we could definitely figure something out when you're here. Other than that I can be very curious about countries, especially thse where I haven't been yet, so if you happen to fall in that category then be prepared for a lot of questions!
