Overview
About Me
I was born in Guangzhou, China and lived there for a few years before moving to the US with my parents. I grew up in Florida, so I'm more American than anything else. I'm currently living in Japan as an ALT or assistant language teacher.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I had heard about couchsurfing from my friend who trekked across America from the east coast to the west coast, but hadn't given it much thought until I experienced staying in a hostel. While there, I met many different characters from all around the world. Meeting them and understanding their cultures piqued my interest. They mentioned couchsurfing as a way to continue meeting people from all over the world and I decided to give it a try.
Interests
I studied philosophy and literature in college. I haven't kept up with any philosophical readings, but I love to talk about metaphysics or aesthetics.
I find technology and games interesting as well. I used to play DotA in college, but haven't had the time or resources since graduating.

Music, Movies, and Books
My favorite books include To the Lighthouse and AVA.
I've been listening to a lot of Japanese music recently and I'm a big fan of Kanye.
Ever since I saw Casablanca on TCM one Christmas, it's been my favorite regardless of how cliche it may seem.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I volunteered for a week in Miyagi prefecture, where the Tohoku earthquake caused an enormous tsunami killing 19,000 people. It was a great experience, because outside investors and the locals rallied around an abandoned school to rebuild as a symbol of hope for the community.
Teach, Learn, Share
I'm an English teacher so naturally English comes to mind haha. I speak Cantonese as well as some Japanese. Living in Japan has given me a unique perspective of the world. I live in a cultural chasm having been raised by Chinese parents in America and now living in Japan. I'd love to know more about other cultures and how they relate to what I've seen and experienced.
I want to say I can teach how to cook Chinese or Japanese dishes, but I'm still working on that at the moment haha. I would love to learn how to cook dishes from around the world though!
What I Can Share with Hosts
A unique perspective of the world from three different angles, America, China, and Japan. I love learning and listening about other people's experiences and trading stories.
