About Me

UPDATE: Sorry, I am currently in Asia, and can't host anyone for a while!

I am a 28 year old Hungarian engineer currently living in Berlin, Germany who decided to stop working after two years because the fact of having to work in a nine to five job until i can retire scares me very much. Maybe i will never be able to digest this, maybe i will, but i certainly need to get to know myself first. That is why the idea of travelling has been lurking in the back of my brain for the past couple of years. If i can gather the strength and courage then i will be off exploring Asia for at least six months. I am also planning to do voluntary work somewhere if it is possible.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am planning a longer trip to Asia. For this not only detailed itinerary and gadgets, but also preparation in the head is required. I would love to meet people who could share their travelling experiences and stories with me. It would be also interesting to get to know the city i am living in with the eyes and interests of someone arriving from a different continent, country or background.

Interests

Space and space exploration fascinates me - dark matter, landing on asteroids, robots sending home selfies from Mars, just wow!
I am also enthusiastic when it comes to protecting the environment, although i need to improve myself since basically the only things i do are recycling and turning off taps and lights when not using them.
I love sports, going on hikes and generally being outdoors. So it is not quite logical that what i do regularly is bouldering indoors, but hey, there are not so many mountains close to Berlin.

Music, Movies, and Books

The music i like most is "acoustic" or without singing. Whether it be ambient (Bluetech, Liholesie), post-rock (God is an Astronaut, Toundra, Pelican), techno/electronic (Gui Boratto, Boards of Canada). I look on music as a means of meditation. But don't take me seriously, i was a huge metalhead when i was younger and i still put on some albums from time to time (Agalloch, Nightrage, early Soilwork, ).
Books are part of my everyday life. I am always reading something when i am on public transportation. I love science fiction, my favourites include Solaris by Lem and Childhood's End by Arthur C. Clarke. I also like crime stories, scientific/philosophical books on the universe and space and Hungarian contemporary literature (when someone recommends me a really good book).
Movies is a difficult topic , let me just make a list of the favourites: The Sting, Sleuth, The Wicker Man, It Happened One Night, 12 Angry Men, Witness for the Prosecution, Boyhood, Apocalypse Now, 4 Months 3 Weeks and 2 Days, Abre los Ojos, Bin-jip, City Lights, Kraftidioten, The Fall, Vertigo aaaaand Superbad and Love Actually!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Bought the Lego pirate ship of my dreams after fruitlessly waiting for someone to get it for me throughout my entire childhood.

Teach, Learn, Share

I would love to learn the following things: be better (better than crap like right now) on the slackline, master a martial art (kung-fu is what i feel closest to although never tried), be better at chess, learn card tricks, learn how to play a musical instrument (what a shame that i haven't dedicated myself to this long time ago...I would love to play the drums but the bassoon has definitely the coolest sound!). Learning languages is also cool, i am devastated that my Spanish knowledge just evaporated in the past years, it is time to relearn it!
I can teach you Hungarian which might sound useless, but it is quite a unique language, and being able to swear loudly and extensively when the bus does not wait for you is essential for survival in Hungary!

What I Can Share with Hosts

That is a tough one. I will know what i can offer once i hit the road. Of course i hope to have nice chats with you getting as deep or staying as superficial as the occasion dictates. I can cook basic Hungarian meals (if it's a plus) and there is a slight chance that i can repair your computer. I am also a professional when it comes to cleaning kitchens and bathrooms. When i grow up, i want to be the person who can add to this list.
