About Me
printf(Hello World!);
Welcome to my profile.
I'm Peter, your average high school science/math teacher, beginner yogi, rock climber, philosopher, and foodie.
Couchsurfing has been such an incredible experience for me, and I can't wait to be hosting again soon (hopefully this fall in Shanghai - come find me!) In the meantime, I am in Nova Scotia, living the quiet life. I am lucky to have a local makerspace where I spend some time making stuff.
I've been told that I am a good teacher, and that I am a huge nerd. I wish I had more people to talk about physics with. I also really like talking with people who have different backgrounds than me. Love meeting new people and seeing how they see the world!
My partner is also on couchsurfing! You can check out her profile here: https://www.couchsurfing.com/people/kellie-koo
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I have used couchsurfing while travelling through China and Indonesia, and found the most fantastic hosts! I love this community and the opportunities it provides to meet such incredible people from all different cultures.
I have hosted in Calgary, Canada for almost two years and have had a lot of great surfers stay with me then.
I haven't hosted or surfed in a few years, but I look forward to having enough space to host this fall in Shanghai.
Interests
I do some programming, for arduino or a raspberry pi (python), and in GML - a game design language. I also play and love listening to music, do some 3D design and printing, dance poi (fire and lights), and love being outside.
I've nearly always got a few different design projects going on - either making a new app or game, or designing a puzzle box, or smart home system or something. Ask me about it.
Board games are a great past time of mine. They're social and fun and can be really casual or seriously strategic! I dig all kinds, but prefer ones with some strategy. Current favourite is Forbidden Stars. Also enjoy Carcassonne, Azul, Puerto Rico, and too many others to list!

Music, Movies, and Books
I read a lot of fantasy; Sanderson and Rothfuss, as well as non fiction. I really enjoyed Thinking Fast and Slow, Essentialism, and recently got into Ryan Anthony's Raven's Shadow series.
I like music from all places and in all languages. Loreena Mckennit, Magic System, Tinariwen, Hanggai, Bomba Estereo, Pretty Lights, Movits! and more.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
This one time in China I travelled to a Tibetan university town. In the crook between two mountains were massive temple-styled university buildings, and running up the sides of the mountains were small Tibetan houses - dormitories built by the students. It was incredible.
Also, every time I reach the summit of a mountain in the Canadian Rockies is an incredible experience. Seeing for leagues, sometimes with no sign of humanity, literally on top of the world.
Teach, Learn, Share
I can do simple repair work (replacing light switches, outlets, doorknobs, etc.), some woodworking, soldering programming microcontrollers.
I can help you with your math homework (probably - up to integral calculus at least).
I can teach 3D modelling and help you find a 3D printing service in your area.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I'll make you a real good pancake breakfast. Or teach you a bit of language. Or teach you some rock climbing technique.
