One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

In October of 2016 I completed an IRONMAN in honor of my mom Jenny Carr, who was battling Glioblastoma Multiforme.

Below is the detailed story:

If you're lucky your parents will get to witness you do something unbelievable for me it was completing an IRONMAN in Louisville last October.
When I started the race I had my doubts that I would not get to the finish line. Before I even jumped into the water I was nervous... and I still had fears the finish line was out of reach when I cramped up on my bike, but the thought of the possibility of my mom being at the finish line was the fuel I needed to keep going. By mile 18 of the run my right leg was completely gone and my body was hurting but my spirit was not broken, I was a son powered by his mothers love.
See, I am one of the lucky ones, my mom and dad taught me at a young age that no matter what you do, you have to try your best, leave everything out on the "field" or in my case the course.
The thought of her gave me the courage to keep going, to never quit and to continue to take one step at a time to get to the finish line.
I was filled with the strength that came from the true genuine love and belief of a mother in her son. Throughout my mom's fight against cancer I've learned 3 main lessons:
1. My family is truly blessed, we have lived such an amazing life filled with an abundance of Love and Laughter!
2. My parents love is evidence that God loves all of us, their love for one and another exemplifies the power of true love. They truly are soulmates and it is beautiful to witness their love for one and another.
3. People are good hearted and amazing, my family has been blessed with great family and friends and even compassion and help from complete strangers.
Over the past year and a half my mom has never given up and she has remained so positive. Despite so many challenges that she has endured recently my mom finds a reason to laugh some and smile some each day.
We only get so many moments in our lives to share our extreme joys and accomplishments with our parents, make sure you embrace every second of these moments with your parents.
For me I'm still so amazed that my mom was there at mile 140, I made the turn and I felt like I could sprint. However, I stopped and bent down and gave my mom a hug!
She was the reason I was doing this crazy race called IRONMAN, I promised her the night before her surgery that I was going to complete an IRONMAN in her honor and I wanted her to be at the finish line. Despite having a seizure just days before the race and not feeling well my mom lived that promise and made the journey to see me accomplish greatness.
Mom, without your belief in me this never would have been possible.
A mothers love for her children is one of most powerful forces in this world!
To all the mom's reading, this post thank you for believing in your kid's dreams, it's your affirmation in your children that will allow them to accomplish greatness.
