CURRENT MISSION

I want to explore! I want to learn to speak French and learn about different cultures. I know this is quite a long process, so I want to begin my journey in France.

ABOUT ME

I am a person who always wants to learn and experience new things. I have spent much of my time learning about science, and I've now taken an interest in social events, culture and money. I value diversity in a very general sense, in everything from people that I interact with to foods that I eat, and I think that being a well rounded person is very important.

PHILOSOPHY

Everyone is a good person, and people only do bad things out of fear and pain. I think this is the one life we get to live, so we should all try to live as much as we can while we can.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

(I wrote this years ago, but I liked re-reading it, so I'm leaving it.)

I visited Chicago earlier this year, which isn't too far from Purdue yet is something I rarely do, and I stood right beside the Sears tower. There was a single beam that was connected near the base and went all the way to the top. I stood right beside the beam, body almost touching the building, and looked straight up. I could see the imperfections in the beam as it went up, and it dawned on me that this was simply a building built by humans, so it was quite imperfect, yet it was such a grand and magnificent feat.

The first thing that came to mind was a moment in my laboratory where my professor was explaining a laser that we were using. I am a nuclear engineer, and I am beginning my graduate studies this coming Fall. The piece of equipment is a laser that emits a pulse for one million billionth of a second. That alone is astonishing, and a few facts about it are astonishing as well. I'm hesitant to expand, as it is quite technical, but I'll try to keep it brief. The power produced by that laser, for that one million billionth of a second (a femto-second) is equal to the power produced by a full sized nuclear power plant running at full capacity. Also, that amount of time that the pulse is emitted is so short, that the energy of the pulse is unknowable due to the barrier imposed by Heisenburg's Uncertainty Principle. Mind==Blown.

Teach, Learn, Share

Consciousness: Science today does not have a good answer for what allows us to experience things. As for our ability to act out and respond to our environment, we have a good understanding and are currently making computer programs to simulate our actions, but the question of "How do we taste the taste of a pineapple?" has thus far remained a mystery.
