ABOUT ME

Relaxed and easy to get on with. Lots of experiences to share. Love getting to know new people and seeing new places. I like having a stimulating conversation; I'll talk about anything.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I couchsurfed in the USA last year. It was a fantastic experience and now, having received so much while surfing, I want to give something back by being a host. Unfortunately I don't have space for guests in my current home, but I can introduce surfers to my city of Nottingham. I'll be moving house soon, hopefully to a place with space for surfers!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I couchsurfed 'unofficially' in Brisbane and San Diego with second cousins I had never met before. It was a great experience, and one reason I signed up to CS. I got to know local families, who also happened to be relatives, and it's a much more fulfilling experience than staying in a hostel.
My only couchsurfing experiences so far were during my travels in the USA. The people I have got to know through CS have been some of the warmest and most generous I have ever met.

Interests

I am passionate about skiing and scuba diving. I ski in Austria or Switzerland most years, and I have dived in Egypt, Australia and Malaysia. I love swimming and snorkeling, and was recently introduced to free diving and spear fishing in New Zealand.

I love playing and watching sport. I cycle and play tennis and many other sports.

I love travelling, especially meeting new people and experiencing new cultures.

I'm a bit of a geek. I have a physics degree and I'm doing a PhD in medical physics. I like talking about what I do, but only if you're interested.

Music, Movies, and Books

Books: Discworld (all of them), Birdsong, His Dark Materials, To Kill a Mockingbird, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, 1984, Brave New World, The Alchemist. I also love popular science and maths books.

Movies: Anything that makes me think. Right now I can think of Good Will Hunting, A Beautiful Mind, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, The English Patient, Donnie Darko, Slumdog Millionaire. I also love the new Batman films.

Music: I'll listen to pretty much anything. My favourite musician of all time is Stevie Wonder. I saw him in 2008 and he was incredible.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Trekked through the Sinai Desert on a camel for five days, then climbed Mount Sinai to watch the sunrise.

Teach, Learn, Share

I teach maths and physics part time. I cook a great spaghetti bolognese (well at least I think so, and my housemates at Uni all seemed to enjoy it).

Countries I’ve Visited

Albania, Andorra, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, China, Croatia, Czech Republic, Egypt, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Malaysia, New Zealand, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, South Africa, Spain, Switzerland, Thailand, United Kingdom, United States, Zimbabwe
