About Me

Hi! My name is Petra and I live in Hungary.
I studied cultural anthropology, ethnology and religious studies at the uni and although I didn't end up working in academy, it made me a more tolerant and considerate person and taught me to always try and see things from other people's perspective so I could understand them better.
I think I'm pretty open-minded and I'm consciously working on to be even more so, no matter how hard it can be at times.

I'm very interested in people in general - what they are like, what they do and why they do it, how they are different and how they are alike -how they think and how they did in the past or how they would think in possible or unlikely futures and alternate realities.

I'm usually quite curious about almost everything and constantly trying to figure out how things work and how I can make sense of everything (and overanalyzing everything in the process).

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I like travelling in general, though sadly I don't really get too much opportunity. I'm quite new to coachsurfing, but I think it could be a very good way to practice language skills and/or learning new languages, get to know new people and indeed, different cultures - and doing so, developing empathy and understanding and seeing things from different points of view.

Interests

Thinking, overthinking, analyzing everything to bits. Reading, learning about anything. History and fiction. Philosophy, culture, folklore and music. Watching movies.

Music, Movies, and Books

There's a wide range of music I enjoy - I'm really fond of any sort of traditional music or classical, but I also like rock, blues or many other genres.
In movies, I prefer those that make me think and/or affect me somehow over movies that are shallow and lacking a plot or logic.
I'll watch anything that catches my interest, though.
Books. I love books and I read about pretty much anything. I quite enjoy non-fiction and fiction alike, although I favour the latter, generally. The books I read most of the time are in somewhere among the lines of fantasy, science fiction, tales and any combinations of these, but I'm quite fond of classic British literature too, for example.

Teach, Learn, Share

I believe one can and should learn something from every interaction with others and every single thing that's happening to them - or, at least I try to live this way. It is and attitude which helps me to understand people and situations and how to deal with them. I'm also happy to share any kind of knowledge with others, be it about languages, history, folklore, anthropology, science or practically anything.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I love sharing bits of information about different cultures and languages and teaching them (do not listen to those who say Hungarian is difficult:) ) I also like cooking and baking, so I can share some of the traditional (or not so traditional) tastes of my country.
I also make the worst puns and weird jokes ever (it's optional:) )
