About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I've spent the past few years going on international trips and now I want to see more of my home country. The U.S. is huge and diverse. I've never even been to the Grand Canyon.

ABOUT ME

All about me? I like to read. I love the outdoors and I'm trying to be more active. I do go hiking fairly often with my dog, and I'm looking into buying a canoe. I like live music. I like to be around friends. I like to sleep but I'm not great at sleeping in. I want to travel more than I do. I have a hound mix named Toby - he loves visitors. I like to cook and I'm pretty not bad at it.

I will talk to you about politics all day and all night and love to hear about other people's experiences and thoughts and opinions.

PHILOSOPHY

Well, that's a big one. I guess the golden rule is a pretty great core value. I'm fine with whatever your belief system might be as long as you don't intend to enforce it on others. Fair warning that I'm queer/gay so probably not a good fit as a host if you're not on board with guaranteeing equal protections under the law for LGBTQ+ folks.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I traveled for work for many years staying in hotels and it was an incredibly lonely experience (Law & Order marathons and House Hunters on HGTV were my constant companions). For personal travel I have mostly been using AirBnB, but even that is pretty impersonal and transactional in nature. One of my big goals over the next couple of years is to see and experience more of my home country, and I think the best way to do that is by opening my home to other travelers and trying to stay with locals on my own travels. I hope to meet and make personal connections with lots of diverse folks through this platform.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I don't have much experience to date. I have a few trips planned for this summer and hope to surf couches in Atlanta, Charlotte, and DC in the coming months.

Interests

I like music, cooking for people, being around friends, pretending I can play the guitar, reading, literary criticism, wine and booze, some hiking, being in lakes and rivers.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Drove the full ring road in Iceland camping in fields under amazing stars (saw the aurora borealis!)

Teach, Learn, Share

I love to prepare meals with others - I think it's a great way to learn from each other and find connection. If I'm hosting, I'm glad to also let you roast a bag of coffee to take with you!

What I Can Share with Hosts

I’m a coffee roaster, so will always bring fresh beans!

Countries I’ve Visited

Canada, Cuba, France, Honduras, Iceland, Mexico, Netherlands, Spain, Tanzania, United Arab Emirates
