CURRENT MISSION
Finding ever better ways of getting lost in the Land of Enchantment
ABOUT ME
Hey y'all! I'm originally from Dothan, Alabama but got the travel bug early and had the good sense to get the hell out of there. Since then, I've decided that life is too short to sit on your ass and that has taken me to some truly enchanted locales. Couchsurfing to me captures the essence of what it means to be a human being. It reminds me that all is not vulgar consumerism and that it is still possible to meet people on equal footing, share, and grow.
PHILOSOPHY
Although steeped in the catechism of the Roman Catholic Church, the closest I get to any religious-esque credo is secular humanism. I believe in the pragmatic pursuit of happiness for all human beings and I believe that reason, logic, ethics, and science are all hard-won tools that light the way. I reject superstition, pseudoscience, supernaturalism, and dogma as the basis for morality and decision-making. I extol the virtues of democratic citizenship. I believe that faith - whether religious, spiritual, or other - is an intensely private matter to be shared only when specifically asked to do so. I am also all too aware that religion is often a force for evil as well as a force for good. In my adult life, I'm quite sure that because I came from Bama where everyone insisted on preaching to me and attempting to save my heathen soul to secure their own passage into heaven, I owe my philosophy in no small part to those beloved yokels.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I'm new to the community but recently I attended a CS party in Málaga, Spain that was a blast. My hope is that more such experiences are on the way.
Interests
The outdoors, languages, politics, int'l human rights, each other.I also love to bike. I live about 8 miles from beautiful Sugarite Canyon State Park and 12 miles from Lake Maloya, located at the top of the Park itself (elev. 7,500). The ascent is gorgeous, and wildlife abounds. When I'm not biking or hiking in the area, I often escape to my favorite cities (Santa Fe, Taos, Boulder, Denver, Pueblo) for regular doses of live music and merrymaking with friends. I should add that I also love to read and talk smack, which I guess figures since I'm a lawyer.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I was in Freetown, Sierra Leone within earshot when the UN helicopter carrying Charles Taylor arrived at the Special Court headquarters. Pretty memorable.
