About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To live more sustainably by acting at a local level, interacting with local people

ABOUT ME

I have had the enormous good fortune to have travelled extensively throughout this world. I have benefited greatly form the generosity of strangers who have given me a lift, accommodation for the night or simply a new direction in which to head.
I have now settled in a very small village in Euskal Herria (The Basque Country) and although I haven't really "travelled" in many years I continue to feel that I am a traveller. I suppose that adventure, in the form of new challenges is what I seek and in these parts there is very seldom a day that there isn't some kind of adventure to be had.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I live alone in this house although my two children come to stay regularly. That being said I am tremendously lucky in having fantastic neighbours. We share many common projects from preparing lunch and dinner together to managing the gardens and bringing in the fire wood. If you have ideas I am more than willing to hear them. This is a very rural location in the heart of Izki National Park. We are all passionate about the hills. Our interests include walking, mountain biking, and climbing. Our knowledge of this very beautiful country is both profound and extensive and we are happy to share this with you.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I began travelling long before mobile phones and internet were invented so the sort of couch surfing I did took place as a result of interactions I had face to face with people I met while hitch hiking. The interactions I had were without exception, positive and has lead me to believe very strongly that the basis of any good relationship lies in trust.

Interests

I am happiest in high places. Mountains inspire me like nothing else. I love good conversation with folk that consider and care about what they say. Much of my life is a quest for a good conversation. I love good writing and consider Roald Dahl, Oscar Wilde, and Fitzgerald to be among the greatest. I love laughter. Who wouldn't? People who make me laugh include Eddie Izard, Gene Wilder and Billy Conolly. I love music in general but am particularly moved by the works of Hariprasad Chaurasia.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies; Midnight in Paris, The Curious Case of Bejamin Button, Departures.... I don't like horror or violence!
Books; I should read more.
Music; Pretty much anything but I never tire of Blue Grass, and am very interested in Indian/Pakistani music particularly Hariprasad Chaurasia and Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I am uncofortable about bragging;) It's all pretty amazing don't you think?

Teach, Learn, Share

The only thing I have no time or energy for is negativity.

What I Can Share with Hosts

This region is perfect for people who love the outdoors. We are very happy to set you in the right direction and even take you to less visited corners. I am particularly interested in hosting people who are willing to participate in our daily life here. Living in the context of a small rural community demands a lot. There are chickens to be fed, donkeys to be walked, a garden to maintain and numerous other tasks. We are more than happy to share our food, our experience and all the rest with people who can give something back. You will also find us on workaway as "Help with ecological garden in a small village in Euskadi (The Basque Country)" My full name is Phil Miller
