ABOUT ME

Hello world. My name is Pheonix. I'm a working student in the San Francisco-Bay Area, currently living in Oakland.

BASICALLY...
I grew up in a small town in central California where I was really active with sports and the great outdoors. I moved to the Santa Cruz area to do community college work, then transferred to UC Berkeley. I've been living around the San Francisco-Bay Area since 2007, including Berkeley, San Francisco, South City, and Oakland, where I currently live.

In the past I've enjoyed my hand at photography, video "art," charcoal drawing, and installations. Currently most of my free time is spent making lo-fi/drone/doom/dreampop/dark ambient music... basically total crap, but it's crap that I for some reason enjoy making. I also spend a lot of my time writing. I have made several mental attempts at writing a novel, or even a short story, but to no avail. I'm either a lazy writer or a poet.

At the very least, my fruitless creativity keeps me sane from the sobering content of my work and academic interests, the social and environmental impacts of which tend to bum me out on very deep levels.

OTHER THINGS THAT MIGHT BE IMPORTANT...
I'm pretty easy going and I'm sure we'll get along if I have the pleasure of exchanging couches with you. All the touchy subjects (drugs, alcohol, religion, politics, sexuality, dietary preferences...) aren't actually very touchy for me. I'm open-minded and respectful of people's lifestyles, so do what you do.

Also, I like to smoke cigarettes. Of course I can keep it outdoors for nonsmokers, but if you're ultra sensitive to the lingering fragrance of tobacco (it's an acquired taste), you might not want to host or be hosted by me.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Hosted a really great guy from Australia while I was living in San Francisco. He was in the last leg of a photographer's journey around the globe. I remember his disapproval of American coffee, the night my friends and I took him to a sweaty night club, and the little Koala bear he left for me.
