About Me

After one year in London and three years of Covid shenannigans, we're back. Sharing my time between Greece and the UK, so you might find my profile being on and off in terms of hosting availabilities.

Human rights/humanities researcher, archivist and amateur photographer (and bit of a cook too ), formerly a musician, living in a 50 sq.m apartment not far from the centre of Athens (not far equals to 25 minutes with the bus to Exarcheia, 30 to the very centre). Things that grind my gears are music and sound, books, critical concept analysis, a good meal and a morning/evening stroll with coffee and cigarettes.

I've spent a fair amount of time working in the cafe/bar scene of the city, and I have also doubled as a walking tour guide in the past, so I'm always up for giving tips and recommendations (or showing you around). Bonus points if you are also not into gentrification and gentrified neighborhoods.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

It's been almost 10 years since I've started hosting people in Athens. I like the idea behind the platform, but I'm not particularly fond of the community it currently cultivates. Lots of people ask me why I won't verify my account. I guess I partly did through paying this absurd fee to re-access the profile, but I believe that the only actual verification someone should have on this platform is through the references he/she/they get/s. People need a host, not a contract. I never asked to be verified in my personal/political life, therefore I seek no verification here.

I understand that the verification process can provide a faux-sense of security to the traveler and to the host but it is true to say that attitudes can be equally damaging with actions, and no verification can ensure a safe and sound environment. To pay almost 15$ for the "right" to host people? Tis ridiculous. Don't know how long I'll stay around, but well.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

(eh..)

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm an anarchy-pro, atheist, skeptical guy with cynical humor. I am truly open to any possible conversation and I really don't care what your god is , where are you from , what colour your skin is and what is your sexual orientation. Unless you'll try to convince me to worship your imaginary authority, we'll be okey dokey here. And the same goes for politics*.

The house is vegan/vegetarian/freegan friendly (though I'm not vegan or vegetarian yet) and an LGBTQI+ ally space.

*Sexism, racism, neo-nazism, religious fundamentalism, terfs, and macho guys that want to "bang some chicks and party" are not really welcome on the premises and are usually dealt with an aggressive attitude.

2024 update: If you or your co-traveller support/endorse genocide(s), slaughter, war crimes, and/or other atrocities against any ethnic or minority group, including but not limited to Palestine, then this is not a welcoming home for you.

What I Can Share with Hosts

When it comes to the house, consider it to work in the "mi casa es tu casa" way. I highly value the concept of personal private space, therefore that applies to my guests too.

I'm offering (depends on the month/time of the year and the number of guests) either a private room with a sofa-bed, or a private bedroom with a double bed, sets of bed linen, towels, and free fiber WiFi. Everybody in the house shares the WC, hangout space, and kitchen.

House features all kinds of coffee and coffee makers, a functioning washing machine, stove, and a multilingual library.
