Overview
About Me
Hi there! I'm Phil, all very new to this at this stage but I'm preparing myself to embark on my first major set of solo travels. I've hosted and lived with many travellers during my time in New Zealand and being somewhat of a fly on the wall to the travelling way of life has given me the bug.
By trade I've worked in retail, but I've thrown that in and am pursuing a career in music as well as photography and videography. My ultimate dream is to sustain myself full time as a creative and travel regularly.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
To put it simply: I've heard great things about this website and the community surrounding it. I've always felt that the best way to really get to know a place is to surround yourself with locals and their way of life. Though hostels can be a great place to find other travellers and future travel buddies, it's also an easy way to miss the hidden gems of every place you visit and to miss out on the unique culture of a place. I want to travel to feel the heartbeat of every town I step foot in, rather than to tread the same paths many before me have already.

Music, Movies, and Books
I always hate the question of my favourite music because there is so much good stuff out there! To name a few solid artists on regular rotation for me: Noah Gundersen, James Bay, Allen Stone, Alicia Keys, Chris Stapleton, Matt Corby, Gary Clark Jr. - the list goes on.
I'm not a huge movie or book buff to be honest. I'm easily pleased in both regards hahahaha. I appreciate a compelling narrative most of all, regardless of the medium it's conveyed through.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I was born with a tumour in my left lung as a child, was operated on when barely a day old. Obviously survived - I think in terms of "amazing" it's kind of hard to top that.
Teach, Learn, Share
Happy to teach any element of singing/guitar playing and photo/videowork to interested parties.
Always interested in learning new languages and skills.
What I Can Share with Hosts
My ears, my shoulders and my empathy/understanding should it be required. Otherwise a sharp sense of humour, lovely hugs, my music and my time, I have rather soft hands from what I've been told but they can certainly put in work when needed - my mother misses the finesse with which I would clean the kitchen in particular.
