ABOUT ME

There's no way I can expect you to believe this, but I am Jesus. I resurrected myself 25 years ago and came to live in Brisbane Australia. I have travelled around the world in search of fresh faces from places I hadn't the chance to visit in my short life some 2000 years ago - and this list is still quite long. In my pursuit to assimilate my thinking to the times, I decided to take a business degree at University, finding commerce and economics as topics most people spent their time worrying about and working at.
Needless to say this didn't take and so I packed up my life and moved to Canada, spending long and short days reflecting on the ever accruing complexities of a changed world I remembered as green and simple, a world that I understood completely..
Since this time I have forgone my past tires to religion and am a man not of the cloth, but of the people and the soil. I travel now by impulse and learning more and more about the earth as I go.
I havespanned the great South American continent, over the vast atlantic and into to Europe.
I have lived and breath a whole year of Mexican culture and loved every minute.
Now I am back where I found myself dematerialising those 25 years ago - Brisbane, Australia
I am friendly, and for the purpose of ease, I call my self Phil.
My name is Phil, and it is a pleasure to meet you.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

By bringing a sense of adventure and positive vibes to the houses of hosts everywhere. And when I am set up enough, I will certainly be repaying the favour !

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Over my travels I have stayed on inumerable couches of friends, friends of friends and just people I was meeting and getting alone with on the road. I know how to respect someones space, and most importantly keep my mess confined to my backpack.

Currently on this journey I have had many couch surfing experiences, all of which amazing, some life changing (you know who you are)...

Interests

I enjoy writing and reading, going outdoors and climbing mountains, walking through parts unkown to me, discovering new music..

Most of all however I love being in the garden.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Walking from a hostel that charged 10 francs a night to the cold streets of Marseille, I looked up to the sky and the clouds were so low that as you ascended the hill towards the Cathedral Notre-Dame de la Garde, one may have been tempted to duck.

It was early morning, but not dawn. The streets were cobbled and the men in flat caps with weathered faces came to the edge of the road to sing salutations which zigzaged across me as I traced the grey mist.

Arriving late the previous night, I stepped from the train terminal overlooking the city like a stone faced gargoyle, and stood atop the seemingly endless sequence of staircases, surveying in kind. Marseille: the rolling hills bound by chaotic concourses streaming down to the black water of the old port, the rising hills at the farthest edge of the city, sprawling high towards the cathedral overlooking the bay to the west, its Virgin statue illuminated and glistening gold against the night. Marseille.

I knew I would be in town for only a day, possibly two if I met some fine folk or heard of some interesting places to visit, so I asked the lady at the desk of the hostel I came to (after being tossed around between many others) what I should do with only 24 hours to play with. She said, "tomorrow morning, early, go to Notre-Dame de la Garde, just up the hill, and look for the gold statue".

So there I am, in the mist, head full of clouds, sleep deprived and searching for a gold statue. As I walked I couldn't see higher than the first level of shops and houses either side of me, and ahead, walking into the hill, I saw only the road.

About a kilometre into my journey the mist started to thin out. I had risen much higher and the wispy haze swilled below my knees, obscuring the view of my shoes. I kept climbing. The roof of the sky was much the same colour as before, the heavy clouds forming an impenetrable ceiling of grey that again lay low against the land. The temperature dropped sharply and suddenly with the altitude reaching its limits, and I start to feel the tender touch of dissolving snow wet the top of my uncovered head. I looked again to the sky. The shining orb of the sun was breaking its way into view and filling the falling snow with light. Just at that moment I see the statue.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am a past university student of Business and presently I am a Barrista. Ever since my first overseas trip, I have been a traveller, and will always be. Having been so many places around the world there will always be stories to share and events to remark on. In terms of learning, I want it all, anything you got, anything that catches your inspiration and passion and takes you on a ride that you can't seem to get off - give it to me, show me how and why its got hold of you.

There is too little time in our lives for holding back. If one day we wake and find we have forgotten this, we must reevaluate, recharge our passions and dreams.
