About Me

I ONLY ACCEPT SURFERS OVER 45 WHO EXPLAIN WHY THEY'D LIKE TO MEET ME.

I'm intelligent, thoughtful and enquiring - I lead a philosophical discussion group - Cafe Philo Bristol.

I try to be creative - in photography, art and life.

Having helped two elderly relatives through worsening health and dementia, I believe we should all be able to choose when to check out of life - when incurably failing health permanently reduces our quality of life below the level we can accept. I volunteer for a UK campaign organisation (My Death, My Decision) which aims to make this possible in a painless, dignified way, with professional counselling and legal access to appropriate drugs when necessary. This work takes up much of my time.

I stopped paid work in 2010. Prior to that I worked as a software research scientist on the future of digital photography.

My approach to life:

The important aspects of ageing are mostly about state of mind; partly about health; but only minimally about number of years you've been alive.

I seek out opportunities and take the most interesting ones - that's the source of a lot of "good luck".

I continually ask myself what things I will regret if I never try them, then do them.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I enjoy meeting free-thinking people who have interesting stories and experiences to share.

I've been couchsurfing (or hospitality clubbing) since 2007. I've met loads of fantastic people from many walks of life. This has been what I've really enjoyed, and is why I am returning to it after a break of a few years while I was helping elderly relatives.

I am a strong advocate of couchsurfing for the over 45's. I've given public talks about couchsurfing and am always enthusing about my experiences to anyone I meet.

I am most interested in meeting other "empty nesters" who are vibrant, free-thinking, and like the philosophy of the gift economy.
