About Me

********For all of those interested interested in a couch, I will be away from July 26 to Sep 07. Please don't make requests for those dates.*********

I'm really interested in making new connections with people from Winnipeg and abroad.

I can be both serious and lighthearted. I am very analytical and like to get into deep conversations. I have a deep passion for environmental issues, feminism, science, and leftist political theory. I'm also a vegan. Needless to say politics and ethics are a central part of my life and I talk about it a lot! But there is definitely a lighter side to me as well.

Although this is my profile, I will be traveling with my girlfriend (Andrea), who is a vivacious and jubilant individual to say the least. Andrea spends much of her time working as a theatre performer and is currently performing in Les Misérables. She is also a musical improvisor. When she is not on stage, she is enjoying life to the fullest. She has a great sense of humour, but can also get serious and loves long conversations about various subject matter.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I first joined Couchsurfing in 2012. I traveled the west coast of the Canada and the United States. I mainly used couch surfing in the US, where I met a number of really fantastic people. Since my travels I have maintained a Couchsurfing account and made my couch available. Unfortunately to this date, nothing has worked out.

Andrea and I will be traveling through Europe for six weeks this summer starting late July. We are both excited to meet new people through the Couchsurfing network. Although neither one of us has used Couchsurfing extensively, we both like to travel conscientiously. Reciprocity, and cross-cultural learning is something that is important to both of us. We are both experienced in traveling as a deeply cultural experience. Andrea has participated in Canada World Youth in her early twenties and has also backpacked through South America. Through her travels she has immersed her self in various local communities. During my travels I have not only used Couchsurfing, but WWOOFing as well, which has been an extremely rewarding. I have created numerous long lasting friends through WWOOFing.

Interests

I am passionate about many things. I enjoy the outdoors and try to go camping and hiking as much as possible. I also spend a good amount of time in the kitchen cooking and baking. Otherwise, I am spending time with friends drinking, and eating good food, whilst playing boardgames. I also love movies, theatre and music.

Right now, I am completing my masters in City Planning.

Music, Movies, and Books

I think I have a pretty eclectic music taste. There are few genres of music I do not like. I also watch a lot of movies. Maybe too many. I'm always hunting for the latest obscure movies, but also love to watch big blockbusters. Whenever I get the chance I'll pick up fiction, but because of school, I spend most of my time reading academic literature.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Hiked a part of the West Coast trail illegally in the winter while it was closed. I watched alone as the sunset on the last day of the year, on one of the furthest edges of the continent, nothing but the massive ocean in front of me. It was spectacular and isolating. I also came unbelievably close to breaking my leg hiking the trail.
