About Me

Currently restructuring my profile nobody (including me) could keep track on it.

Due to the fact that I've recently become a father I am unable to host for a couple of years until my kid is older. Still up for meeting people if the timing works out.

I'm a dude born and raised in Salzburg, Austria. I took a year off from mid 2017-2018 to hitchhike a bit around. It was my first trip alone ever. 33000 kilometers (20505 miles), 367 days and about 20 countries later I kinda finished the trip.

Met dozens of awesome CSers, hundreds of cool (and sometimes very strange) people who picked me up hitchhiking and learnt a lot about myself and other cultures. And how long the human body can continue existing just based on a diet of peanut butter and bread. So yeah, ended up liking travelling quite a lot.

Now where I am back most of the time I do want to host people. Because it's always cool to meet interesting folks and help fellow travellers. Since some people apparently don't have the same expectations on what CS is as me I'd like to clarify: I'm not purely a free hotel. No, I don't charge money and don't want you to spend every second with me, please do respect my grandma, my dog and me. Whereas my personal experiences as a host thus far have been awesome I've heard quite a few stories of the people that hosted me, so this whole paragraph is more or less just preemptive.

As noted above I live with my grandma. She's in her 80's and still extremely fit for that age. She's generally cool with CS. but it's always kinda stressful for her to host people, especially if they don't speak any German and it's lots of people in a short amount of time. That's why I mainly host people who at least understand some German and not more than 1-2 at a time, two or three times a month. Don't worry though! Just drop me a mail and I'll tell you if it's alright. My dog hates everybody at first. He doesn't bite but don't expect him to like you right away. He always needs a few hours to adjust to new people. Also, just to make sure you read the profile write that you understand that I have a dog and are okay with it. That's a big plus in my decision making process.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Seeing different buildings and architecture is fine and all, but the main point of travelling by now is more the people. Getting to know the different ways that people think is pretty cool and Couchsurfing enables people to get in touch and exchange some cultural and social information. Of course it's also a matter of costs. As somebody with very limited assets who still is dedicated enough to travelling it seems like such an amazing tool.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: My main genres are Metal (pagan, folk, viking, melodic) such as Ensiferum, Equilibrium, Nightwish and similar bands, and Epic Orchestral soundtracks as you hear in movies and video games. Musicians like Two Steps From Hell and Hans Zimmer for example. But I also listen to most other genres time and time again.
Movies: Love everything from Disney, Studio Ghibli and Pixar. Pretty much everything that's animated (2D or 3D). Also experimental or borderline trashy movies such as "Rubber". Underrated gem.
Books: "Gaunts Ghosts" by Dan Abnett is probably my favorite by far. Also read some classical literature like Goethe. It's not often that I read something.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

>Actually started travelling.
>Continued travelling from June '17 until June '18 for a total of 367 days.

Teach, Learn, Share

I know some stuff. You know some stuff. Via communication I can know the stuff that you know and vice versa.
Learning new things is always awesome. Personally I can teach about some technological stuff (I'm a Graphic Designer by profession).
Next to the things seen in the "interests" section I also know more things than the average person about my home town Salzburg. If you are extremely lucky when being hosted by me (and you speak German) you get a tour of the city by my grandma. She's a walking encyclopedia of our town.
If you have something you're willing to teach me feel free to do so!

What I Can Share with Hosts

Of course my company is something I can share with people. Seems more interesting to actually get to know the people and their beliefs, mindsets and ambitions than just camping or being somewhere in a hostel and looking around town. Also I traveled a bit by now, so I can for sure help you with some information in some aspects!
