About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To push my own boundaries. To be an awesome host.

ABOUT ME

Quiet, considerate, no-nonsense guy.

PHILOSOPHY

To make the world a better place, you must start with yourself.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

When I'm in Oaxaca and not already hosting friends, I keep an eye out for folks looking for a couch in Oaxaca, Mexico. I also try to keep an eye on the message boards and add the occasional tip.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've only hosted so far, I've not surfed per se. Most recently, I hosted two artists -- one Swedish, the other German -- for a few days. It was a great experience. I hope to repeat it soon.

Interests

Good food, followed by good friends and good books.

Music, Movies, and Books

Just finished a Cryptonomicon and Cloud Atlas on my new-ish Kindle. Devouring books in my hammock is a serious pastime.

Love music of all kinds. I host a semi-regular daytime dance gathering in Oaxaca, called Soul Sunday. We DJ soul music, reggae, hip-hop, electronic, and so on.

I also host a semi-regular movie night where I screen documentaries of all kinds: from the political to the purely visual.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Traveled to Haiti in 1996 to document the Canadian's part in the UN peacekeeping mission.
Journeyed around the southern tip of South America.
Caught Radiohead live at a very small outdoor venue in Beunos Aires (Kraftwork opened).

Teach, Learn, Share

Well, I'm a digital publishing consultant, so my profession is to help people with "Web stuff" of all kinds. Typically, I teach classes on data journalism and data visualization, as well as teaching non-technical people the basics of programming, often with tools like Processing or R that are more visually focused.

I'd love to increase my knowledge of how to make things: silk screening, building stuff with materials, and cooking.

Countries I’ve Visited

Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, France, Haiti, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, South Africa, United Kingdom, United States, Uruguay

Countries I’ve Lived In
