About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Finding people who are saving the planet in some way or other, and joining them!
ABOUT ME
Last year I was teaching science in Mongolia, then cycling coast-to-coast across the USA, offering Obama my help electioneering in swing states. Now I divide my time between thatching around the roofs of chocolatebox southern England, researching for a charity trying to fix our breaking climate. Lots of cycling, walking, and attempting to sleep outside in as much of Europe as possible.
PHILOSOPHY
I'm a vegetarian (apart from when I'm in a Mongolian yurt; there's nawt much but mutton on offer) and I try to stay involved with the environmental movement. Climate change is an existential threat to civilization, and campaigns like www.savethearctic.org and www.350.org can help.
For democracy to work involves much more than just a cross in a box every for years.
I'm an addict for charity work, from Amnesty to Greenpeace; from People&Planet to the Samaritans, and particularly pleased to meet you if you are too
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Currently trying to secure permanent residence so I can begin hosting again.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Just over the Danish border, heading for the Copenhagen Climate Conference, sub-zero temperatures, Couchsurfing got last minute floor space for 18 tired cyclists in a flat built for two people! If Couchsurfing hadn't come to our rescue, that would have been 18 frozen global warming campaigners, a terrible irony.
Interests
*Arguing! Debating!
*I'm a big fan of all things environmental. After a little encouragement, I will be sitting down in airports, lying down in roads, camping in the way of pipelines etcetera.
*Football and Kayaking (together if possible)
*Reading- but there are far too many books, so I appreciate suggestions of the best ones.
*Cycling- across Spain, from Amsterdam to Copenhagen (with www.rideplanetearth.org), all over the UK, San Francisco to New York in the midst of the 2012 elections, and in 2015 across Japan

Music, Movies, and Books
Good books; 'the better angels of our nature: why violence has declined' by Steven Pinker is an optimistic view of what a fine, peaceful society we've built in the last few years. C.S.Lewis's "A Grief Observed" (even if religion gets in the way of his profound thoughts).
Pixar's "Up!" guarantees that I will be weeping like a baby.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Kayaking with Dolphins in the Irish Sea: me and my Dad, miles from land, with these enormous creatures (compared to our tiny kayaks!) whizzing all around us.
Teach, Learn, Share
I'd like to learn about building my own house; Straw bale building, digging out a hobbit hole, etc.
If we can find a kayak, I can try to teach an Eskimo (Inuit?) roll. I can have a go at teaching you some basic Shaolin kungfu, but I can't guarantee it will enable you to fight off twenty ninjas whilst wearing handcuffs. If it does though, I will take the credit.
