About Me

CURRENT MISSION

My mission is to find a mission, right after earning some money, going travelling and hopefully doing some couchsurfing

ABOUT ME

I am friendly and accomodating. I see couchsurfing as an opportunity to try things and go places I might not otherwise have done or gone.
At the moment I am at a crossroads in my life - having graduated from university I do not have specific career plans and I'm trying to decide how I'd like to earn my living for the next few decades. In the meantime I'm doing temporary jobs to pay the bills.
I am also always up for a good evening out, a drink or a meal with friends, with the occasional heavy night every week or so.

PHILOSOPHY

Eat well, keep fit, get a lie in whenever ou can cos there won't be many when you're working 9-5 in the future!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I plan to do some couchsurfing abroad after the contract on this house runs out in summer 2010. In the meantime I'd like to give people the freedom to see Manchester, meet new people and experience new things as I hope to do when I travel in the future. Couchsurfing allows people with similar ideas and aims to come together and co-operate.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

My only direct experience of couchsurfing so far is through my housemate Laurent, who couchsurfed in Manchester for a few weeks before coming to live with us permanently. From his experiences of couchsurfing I can see that it s something I would like to participate in.

Interests

I listen to a lot of music, particularly reggae artists such as Horace Andy or The Wailing Souls. I also like other kinds of Jamaican music; dancehall, rocksteady, toasting etc.
I also have an interest in folk music and country music such as Woody Guthrie. Some of my other favourite musicians are the White Stripes and Oasis (Manchester!), just so you don't get the impression I'm being pretentious and only going for the obscure ones!
I am a big football fan and will watch any game on TV. I play for an 11 a side team at a reasonably good standard. I also run a five a side team, as does my housemate Joe, so if you fancy a game then there might be opportunities for you to play. I also have a football blog which I would appreciate if you visited right now cos I'm always looking for new readers! www.moronstalkaboutfootball.wordpress.co.uk/

I have an interest in history, it is something I'd like to know more about. I also have an interest in politics. I enjoy the odd visit around an art gallery or a museum, though I don't go frequently.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music;
Reggae, Dancehall, Dub, Rocksteady;
Horace Andy, Bob Andy, Bob Marley, Wailing Souls, Cornell Campbell, Prince Jazzbo, Lone Ranger, King Tubby
Folk/Country;
Jimmie Rodgers, Woody Guthrie, Bob Dylan, Roger Miller
Rock/Punk;
New York Dolls, Ramones, Rolling Stones
Also;
Flaming Lips, White Stripes, Oasis + lots of others

Films;
Magnolia, Kill Bill, Something About Mary, Naked Gun, Rain Man, The Circus, Wings of Hope, The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, The Sword in the Stone

Books;
I tend to read non-fiction now, though I used to read a lot of fiction and in fact did English Lit at university.
I like history books, and have a specific interest in American Indian history and culture. A book that absolutely fascinated me is 'Don't Sleep there are Snakes' by Daniel Everett which describes Everett's life among an Amazonian tribe.
Another history book I would recommend is 'The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass', by Frederick Douglass. It is an autobiographical account of Douglass' life and escape as a slave in 19th century America.
I read the occasional political book as well, for example Peter Oborne's 'The Triumph of the Political Class', and Bjorn Lomborg's 'The Sceptical Environmentalist'.
I also like pop science books, such as Blink by Malcolm Gladwell, Freakonomics by Stephen Levitt and Genome by Matt Ridley.
Finally I have to recommend a book called Herzog on Herzog, a series of interviews with German film director Werner Herzog. You will not believe the stuff this man has been up to and you'll go out and watch all his films. I did anyway!

TV;
Marion and Geoff, The Royle Family, Saxondale, Father Ted, Flight of the Conchords, Louis Theroux's Weird Weekends

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've seen Usain Bolt running in Manchester - he's very fast.
