About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To help teach SELF, and to discover more of our planet and the people who live across it

ABOUT ME

Ha! I hate these sections! You will find out more about me in the way I go about life, how I talk and when I shut up than in anything I could write here, but I'll try...

I Have strong feelings about many little things, but know (sometimes) when to hold back. I'm contemplative, I love a challenge even if I often jump into the deep end and scare myself. And i won't try anything once, but will definitely entertain the idea.
I have a personal morality that I can bend to suit my life choices, but will always regard how my actions affect others as a crucial priority.
I can have fun without alcohol and enjoy local drinks. Would rather go to the pub with Stephen Fry than Angelina Jolie. I don't know why I picked her. She would probably be fun too, but no Stephen.

I am expansive, trusting and open. I like to be occupied. Not always busy or even physical but with something to do, say or read.
I don't get precious over things that I own as I will always believe that they don't define me, but I have two surfboards I'm missing out on surfing at the moment, as well as football and a host of great friends.
I love music, and whereas whilst at uni I was picky I have since learned to listen to anything. I play all sorts in the background all the time, but have chosen to travel without. Odd perhaps but I wanted to make sure I heard all the sounds of a new (to me) country.

I've always loved writing and I'm learning to blog. Hopefully I will discover how to get better at the photography side of things too.

I aim to make the rest of this year as fun as the first 4 months will be. I don't know where I will end up but will enjoy the summer and autumn months coaching.

The best way to see me at the moment is by visiting http://www.ramblingfortheimpatient.blogspot.com/

PHILOSOPHY

I don't like adverts. And as I studied philosophy i won't bore anybody. Actually, I couldn't because truly I don't know that much traditional philosophy. But I do agree with Dan Goleman's book 'Emotional Intelligence'. Humans are not primarily rational, so feelings do matter.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm very new to this, but this is a new phenomenon to me and I want to get involved as much as possible! Having the right place would help. can't say I'm there yet, but I'm viewing couchsurfing as a long-term project.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have surfed with 3 great hosts so far. i have either been very lucky, or paid the right amount of attention to their profiles.
The whole couchsurfing project is an idea and a reality that is made great by the people who participate. i have entered this with a truly open mind and can honestly say that as a result of being willing to try and understand others' ways of life, I have got more from my travels through Couchsurfing than i ever believed possible.

Music, Movies, and Books

As with everything I am interested in what others find cool and worthwhile but here are a few from my collections that i think everybody should experience...

Movies: Man on Fire, Duets, Sideways, Garden state, The Holiday, V for Vendetta
Books: The Left Hand of Darkness, Dune, Atomised
Music: Fleet Foxes, Lily Allen, Plump DJs, Yeasayer, Crystal Castles, Tove Stryke

I change my favourites all the time and often the music or movies i love reflect my mood.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Survived being a total fool once or twice including falling down a cliff and head first on to railway line (separate incidents). Seen Jolyon hop his board over me and mine.
Have hunted for and seen some amazing views of little old England that would take your breath away.
I am currently doing the amazing thing I have wanted to do for years!

Teach, Learn, Share

I do this better face-to-face. I love to talk, and it can be about anything! As I mentioned, I have strong views usually about pointless stuff which is often funny, but couchsurfing represents a different style for me- meeting new people this way I find it much easier to embrace new views and aspects of life.
For me, it's a better education than can be found in books.
