ABOUT ME

PHILOSOPHY
I hope that people don't feel as though they're wasting their time, because that can be very depressing. There's a page in a Dr. Seuss book, I think it's "Oh, The Places You'll Go", that describes "the terrible waiting place"; I've been there, it's awful and I consider myself very lucky to have only spent a relatively little time there (you know when you're in a failing relationship and nobody does anything about it? that's the feeling! what a waste of such precious time!)
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
surf and host whenever I can, although I'm not usually in one place very long!
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I do most of my couchsurfing with friends and acquaintances whom I know from other contexts; I've only done couchsurfing "officially" (through the website) in Europe and Mexico for the moment
Interests
indie music, traveling, improving my Spanish, indie cinema, archeology, taking hundred of pictures of funny things I see while travelling or at home then never looking at the pictures again, French comic books, detective fiction, cats, modern art, science (evolutionary biology, psychology, astronomy, physics, etc.), walking around new urban places (especially off the beaten path, in less touristy areas), learning from experiencing new things and listening to peoples' stories, listening to people speak Portuguese (it's so beautiful! I hope to learn it some day)

Music, Movies, and Books
college/ indie radio, garage rock, light electro, just discovered swede 'fever ray' from the group 'the knife'; a bit dark/melancholy, like bjork or tricky. i like strange films, and clever indie cinema, foreign films, 'donnie darko' and 'waking life' are favorites, also 'the life aquatic', sci-fi and clever dialogue, but i read detective fiction because it's light and i like problem-solving and psychology... am currently reading Catalunyan author Eduardo Mendoza, a comedic detective series in Spanish
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
lots of interesting things in the clouds and forests of laos and thailand; the first time i stepped into a hindu temple in poona, india; vietnamese women singing prayers in ho chi minh city; snorkeling near na trang; the dusky sky filled with kites in jaipur, india; sharing food and a shoulder to sleep on during a 2-day train ride across china; following a magpie along the great wall for a day; watching my friends' not-yet-2-yr.-old daughter communicate with sign language; taking care of a mule for 2 weeks in a self-sustained village in south-western Spain; wrecking my back while picking grapes near Lyon for 10 days; a rare aurora borealis in new brunswick, canada; being the first person in 2,000 years to look through a bronze ex-voto mask during the excavation of a ruined Roman temple in Normandy
