About Me

I like chatting about life, learning about new things, and seeing the world from other people's perspectives. I write indexes for a living - the thing at the back of the book where you look up info. This basically means I get to read books for a living which is pretty great. So when I'm not having awesome conversations and seeing the sites that's what I'll be doing. I love coffee, so checking out local coffee shops is a must. I'm a pretty laid back person, and I'd love to grab a beer together, though I'm definitely a light to moderate drinker. I'm a runner as well (though I've taken a break this winter), so I'm down to go for a run or hike together if that's your thing too.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm a newly made digital nomad, and I'm looking to see and experience more of the world. And meet up with awesome people while I'm at it! I've been adulting my small college town in the midwest (Iowa) for two years post-college, and I'm ready to get out there and broaden my horizons. You can only handle being surrounded by corn for so long lol. Couchsurfing seems like a great way to travel on a budget and to meet up with cool people. When I travel I prefer to have the live-in experience than do strictly touristy things, though doing some touristy things to check off the list are unavoidable.

Music, Movies, and Books

I tend to go through swings, but lately I'm really into Hozier. I also like Florence and the Machine as well as Stromae. I try to listen to French as much as I can to pick some up, and Stromae is just really cool. The only music I just can't get into is Metal. It's a bit too intense for me. I prefer things that have a rock influence, but are a bit more of a mixture of styles like rock and jazz which is more Hozier's style as well as Kaleo. I'm more into books related to my field of study and fluff movies. I like easy to watch movies even if they're a bit cheesy, and I prefer to get my intense material through my books. My favorite book lately is "If Women Rose Rooted" by Sharon Blackie. Her message is really powerful for the modern woman who also wants to connect to ancient, archetypal stories from the Celtic tradition.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I did a portrait series of my friends in the pages of an old book using pastels. I liked having art that represented the significant people in my life at the time that combined elements of text and image. It was also somewhat sustainable in that I used a reclaimed book rather than new paper. I haven't done too much art since that since my life has shifted focus, but it's one of my favorite creations.

Teach, Learn, Share

I have taken five years of French and would love to practice with anyone interested. I work with books, and I'm pretty decent with revising/editing help though not quite at a professional level yet. I do have a degree in Sustainability and would love to converse about that, though if you're not interested that's ok too. I played soccer for 12 years though it's been awhile since I've been on a team. I'd be up for a backyard scrimmage if you're into that. I'm also always reading something for work which I consider a perk. I'm always open to discussing that.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm a laid back person who's a great listener. People tell me that I'm calming to be around. I tend to either go really low-key with food or all out so I can go all out for some meals together. I've also been an inadvertent house manager for the past two years, so I can trouble shoot/fix basic home problems. I also like to garden, so if you happen to have one I'd totally help you out with that.
