About Me

I'm a bassist, currently starting a new cover band, at least it looks that way. 3 girls and 2 guys. We're pulling a lot of old 60s punk stuff out of the bag and mixing that with post-punk from the 80s ,90s and present day. A couple of original songs are finding their way in to. That's where we're at so far.

I'm working in https://www.developerdao.com/, a web3 'DAO' for developers, designers, educators, founders, etc. I'm a co-founder and lead for our in-house mentorship programme, and am also a co-founder and steward of our 'Academy' education platform for web3 developers.

I'm very active in Extinction Rebellion and protecting the world that feeds us, shelters us, and keeps us healthy is my highest priority. When we realise that as number one priority as a species, we eradicate violence, hunger, displacement and poverty.
I practise permaculture in my garden. If we were to upscale and use this method as the fundament for our food systems globally, all life on Earth would thrive again as it would make so much sense socially.

I'm an ultra-light thru-hiker (long distance hiker). I've done the northern Spanish coast, the Pyrenees, 2/3 of the Alps so far.

I love language - the key to culture, and I was a language teacher for a long time, so if you need some help with your English, I'd be happy to help!

Food, and cooking.....ho ho ho. Turning vegan opened so many new doors for me for improving my cooking skills and curiosity for food and actually growing it.

And I love to learn about culture and meet new people - all of the above wouldn't exist otherwise - I owe most of the joy in my life to others. Thank you all.

At home, my day starts with 20 meditation before everything else. External noise isn't an issue.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

As I said, I love to meet new people to learn about their musical taste, the food they know about and love, the culture from their home, and what's important to them in the world. It's a pleasure to have the energy of other people in my home, and be able to make them feel comfortable with getting around in my area, in the nicest, cheapest and most practical way, and maybe checking out some social things/places that I go to too. I'm not a historian, or tour guide, but I believe I am quite an 'aware' person, so I love to share that much.

And I also need to travel once in a while (I do my best to hitch-hike in Europe, or take the train if I can afford it) to web3 conferences/hackathons. Sometimes to music festivals/events and once in a while. And it might be nice - while on a long distance hike - to check in to somewhere that isn't the minimalist tent I have, and to share some company with someone that isn't myself.

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm a punk and rocker at heart. I love thrash/speed metal too. Ska and Drum n Bass get me dancing. I love a load of traditional and world music too from all over the world. Traditional Irish being in my soul. As a bassist, my best friend in music is the percussion/drums. Next to that, the frequencies that get me are found in cello, sitar, viola, bouzouki, baritone guitar, etc.

Films: NIght on Earth by Jim Jarmusch; Life of Brian by Monty Python.

Books: Trinity by Leon Uris; A Star Called Henry by Roddy Doyle

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I crossed the Pyrenees in 44 days on the GR10. That's a nice achievement. I have done quite a few amazing thing...... and lived to tell the tale, including the crocodiles, the lions, the hyenas, especially that particular one in Hwange Park! .......we can talk about them!

Teach, Learn, Share

Music, and more music, web3 tech, language being the key to culture, permaculture, environmental challenges and how we might coordinate to solve them, philosophy....... and food!

If you need help with your English, I'd be happy to avail :)

What I Can Share with Hosts

I have two bedrooms. One single and one double. If a couple comes, I can use the single.
It's also possible to sleep one person on the couch in the living room. I also have a comfortable spare bed and an extra mattress, that I can put in the living room, or in the single room - in those cases, I'll leave it to my guests to choose where they feel most comfortable/private. I have sheets, pillows and duvets, feel free to use your own if you want.

I have a garden on the south at the back of the house, it's a little paradise, and if guests are here in the summer, or autumn, they should have some fresh fruit to pick!

There's a toilet and shower room upstairs, and a toilet downstairs. If guests are travelling light, I have towels, soap, etc.

There's also a kitchen downstairs with a washing machine. Needless to say, the fridge and cooker can be used, as well as the microwave, and all the cooking utensils.

I don't drink or smoke, and I don't mind folks having a glass of wine or a couple of beers, or smoking a joint (outside) or whatever, but I don't want folks bringing 'Class A drugs' into my home, or being drunk and stoned and obnoxious.
