About Me
Hello, my name is Pierce! When I'm not traveling, I call Arizona my home!
I was born and raised in Phoenix and I have a deep love for the Southwest and all of the diversity that Arizona has to offer. My family owns a restaurant in Phoenix, which my grandparents opened in 1972, and we are still family owned and operated to this day! This was my first job, at age six, which was mostly a way to keep me and my brother out of trouble during the summer. I have been in the hospitality industry ever since, working at various bars and restaurants over the years as a bar tender, server and manager. I also owned a party bus at one point, which was a lot of fun and provided me with many crazy stories that I'll never forget!
In 2008, my brother and I backpacked through Europe, staying in hostels all along the way, taking the Eurail almost everywhere we went. Six weeks and 16 cities later, I was hooked on travel and became determined to see more of our beautiful and diverse world.
Since then, I have traveled all over the U.S. and some coastal regions of northern Mexico. In 2015, I traveled back and forth through most of Panama for five months, volunteering at hostels along the way. It was here that I learned the value of spending more than just a few days in new cities while traveling abroad. I spent November of 2016 in Thailand, splitting my time between Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Chiang Dao and Koh Samet, quickly realizing that, despite all of my amazing experiences, one month simply wasn't enough time to see it all. I definitely plan to return and to do an extended backpacking trip through Southeast Asia sometime in the future!
As for now, I am on a two year (ish) backpacking trip through all of Latin America. I started in Mexico City on September 6th and will be making my way east through the rest of Mexico, Central and South America and the Caribbean, hoping to travel through as many cities as possible along the way! My favorite part about traveling is absorbing other peoples cultures and sharing these wonderful stories and traditions with my friends and family back home.
Throughout my travels, I will be posting to my culture blog, FeedTheGoodBeast.com, so that my loved ones back home, and people all over the world, can experience the beauty that Latin America has to offer. I'll be sharing stories, photos and videos of my own, as well as stimulating content from others who I meet along the way!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Although the internet is a great source for finding things to do in unfamiliar places, I would prefer to experience a city through the eyes of a local!
